the first of the two migs is simmilar to one on the electronics range at spadeadam !!
very good shots the migs are particularly impressive !!
yep long exposures !!
as moggy mentioned a tripod is favourable although not always necessary
bean bags and roadside furniture and walls can suffice as long as the camera stays firm with no movement
to avoid even more shake if you do not posses a remote shutter release use the self timer function
as that locks up the mirror on slr’s before firing the shutter thus elliminating mirror blur also you can let go of the camera and eliminate human movement as well
the best time to shoot is during ” the blue hour ” IE the hour before sunrise and the hour after this gives the most stunning blue and purple skies whilst being dark enough for time exposures
for extra creativity i also use flash on foreground objects
there is lots of creative possibilities in time exposure and some phenomenal results when you get it right !!
That looks mightly like a mosque in the background; I doubt at that period you’d find one in Australia.
Moggy
you would now !! but ta for pointing that out all the same , lol !! d’oh
and could the k’s possibly be r’s in arrivals ??
just a thaught but could it be australian ??
nice , i didn’t remmember the lexus liveried one i only remmembered the pitts pair
yey on a cine film site it is dated as 72
i feel either could be right although i’d favour 70 as a couple of years on i feel my memmories of it would have been stronger through being older !!
according to this it was 70 and an RAF show although as you say it could tie in with the 25 yrs thing !!

You are spot on. It was Heaton Park, it would have been 71 or 72. There were the usual static displays of cockpits and such, a few helicopters. In the Sky (Gawd this is digging way past the formatted part of my head!!) was poss. the Lightning, but I do remember some old helicopters, possibly a Bristol Sycamore? I think the BoB mem. flew past, and a Shack or Lanc.
In the sky also, was a WW2 Blimp, tethered.
I can’t remember the reason for the gathering, Burtonwood had a small show about the same time. If it was 1970, it could have been 25th anni. of the end of WW2?
thank you for that , i always wanted to learn a little more about that event
i know i went there and my only memmories are walking around the gardens , the lightning and getting on the bus home
as i was only about six
i would love to see photo’s of the event but i presume most are lost as i have found little on the internet or localy
it would be intresting to find out which lightning and markings it was in for a painting project !!
.Thanks for 1990 photos tornado man and do you remember the vulcan setting all the car alarms off going nearly vertical that day!!!?it was a laugh seeing everybody running off to sort them out.:)As Aretha said “Oh happy days”.:) Doesn’t that mustang just about say it all as to how the shows went.
do i ever remember all the car alarms going off ( all apart from mine i secretly hoped someone would nick it !! )
it wasn’t so much the car alarms going of so much as my ear hairs tickling as they vibrated happily
i’m sure HandS would throw an eppy nowadays !!
as you say happy days !!!
i have some more from barton and woodford when i get arround to scanning some
some more shots from the same 1990 barton show
not brilliant as all i had at that time was a 50mm lens
but just captured something at least

My most favourite Barton day was the “Auster Fly-in”. circa 1974?? Anybody else remember it? I took dozens of photo’s, but Lord knows where they are now.
There was also an Anniversary fly in around the same time, 50th of the Lancashire Aero CLub I seem to recall.
i would have only been ten then !!
although around that time i have memmories of being taken there although the only aircraft i remember was the yak i think the story went ” it was captured and the russians denied it existed
another memmory of around those years ( early seventies ) was either a millitary tattoo or a small air display over a local large park ( heaton park ) where the main attraction was an english electric lightning !!
there’s just something about tiger moths that makes them look so good on beaches !!
that microlight biplane was brill too !!
Yep we must have crossed paths that Friday or Saturday the show was on.Was that overpass in the background the M62 then as its now part of the M60 ringroad?.
it was a saturday or sunday !! i’d say sunday more likeley but friday deffinately not
you are correct about the bridge an unusual fact is that barton bridge contains the oldest and first laid of britains motorway foundations
as the foundations for the bridge were laid before building the motorway network commenced !!
yeah very sad about the demise of barton and woodford shows unfortunately the crowdline issue killed barton as it was pushed so far back after the post ramstien amongst other safety rules it meant there wasn’t enough spectator room to make it viable
shame as it was always a superb show !!
