I’m thinking its a bit unfair to pick on the kiddies, even if they are fat*. Lack of a proper diet can usually be laid at the parents door.

However… morbidly obese types in later life that don’t look after themselves, and insist it’s not their fault they’re fat are legitimate targets.

    Rich

(* if they’re ginger, there’s an exemption to this.)

can you explain further as you seem to be a medical expert !!!

i confess to being overweight i don’t take offence when mates take the Language, Timothy! if anything one of them is exceptionaly funny with it !!

but you make to much of a generalisation

my weight was piled on as the result of having a cycling accident being imobile for six months with smashed up legs and giving up smoking at the same time

i confess i should have gauged my diet because of lack of inactivity ( not being allowed to walk and having to keep my legs ellevated

to combat the effects i sold my three cars and do nothing but walk or cycle where i am going

and have lived off salad fish and chicken for two years but it does absolutely nothing to move the weight

    your move sherlock !!

What I notice here that most the posters of the more left/liberal/pc vein seem to be the ones most intolerant of views which disagree with their own. The reasonI posted this is that I have a German lady lives near me who was living on the outskirts of Dresden at the time. I had a chance to speak to her about this yesterday. She said she would quite happily open the memorial, as a child she “looked” Jewish, and that was enough that she could rarely leave the house without all sorts of grief from the locals. Those that say the majority of Germans didn’t support Hitler should read Victor Klemperers’ book and then keep quiet.
One of her brothers was in killed serving with the Luftwaffe, the other survived the Eastern Front and died last year. Post war she met and married a Japanese man, one of the nicest people I have ever met, who died 4 years ago. He served as a boy soldier in Manchuria, now you want to go on about Dresden…read what happened there and then say the atom bombs were wasted.

to be fair we as a country also gleefully supported the crusades

you cannot blame a race of people , but you can blame psychologicaly controling governments

wich odly enough is where this comes from

did you ever sit back and ignore newspapers and governments propaganda and actualy think your own thaughts

bad people will always be bad , however it takes religion, government or the press to make good people do bad things !!

    Hear, hear!

Let’s do our best in our little microcosmos of a vintage aircraft thread to perpetuate hatred and hostility. After all, WW2 ended only 65 years ago, so why bother with moving on? Let us all ensure that all of this is passed on to our children and grandchildren in a manner which ensures that everything remains as it once were… 65 years ago.

Oh, and how mildly entertaining that the threadstarter has a German Tiger tank as avatar, not to mention the various enthusiastic comments on German WW2 aircraft in other threads.

couldn’t agree more whilst it is wrong to forget all races and all causes of deaths in the war

to some extent we are also on the verge of glorifying it too much !!

perhaps a memmorial in the 50’s or 60’s would have been fitting we are now on the point where we have enough memmorials ( one huge flying one ) that speaks more than any hunk of concreete can

but it is now 2010 and time to move on from atrocities on both sides

and to teach the young to get along with other nationalitys !!

i’ll close with the words of johny johnson ( lancaster crew on the dambuster raids ) in a documentary on t.v . commenting on his aircrafts failed attempt on the second dam

” our bomb failed to blow the dam , in hindsight knowing the death and destruction the sucessfull one caused all i can say is thank god it failed !!”

as i said in an earlier post i’m far from pointing fingers ,

but we have to remember it is a very old and very technical exceptionaly fast millitary machine

part of the reason the uk no longer allows them to fly

they were not the best safety reccord plane in thier day either

in thier time they were very close to a spacecraft

given all this and then letting enthusiasts run them ( no matter how skilled and efficient !! )

it was a timebomb waiting to go off ( only my personal oppinion obviously )

but none the less pretty close to the tragic truth

we all like to see them flying and they did a stearling job of seeing superb aircraft flying for the last time

hopefully in time they will be remembered for that instead of one accident

but i do feel once aircraft of this type are no longer under the charge of millitary and manufacturers it is time to ground them !!

Nice to see someone with a slightly less than rose tinted view of TC. I agree with you, that interim report wasn’t exactly glowing! (no pun intended).

not read the report but when i first heard about the accident i have to confess something sounded not right

a failure of systems , then ejector seat failure , i’m no ejector seat specialist , and as such probably shouldn’t comment

but i’d imagine it is simple technology to get right and as far as i’m aware it must be the first failure of one (i’ll probably get corrected )

not necessarily fact but my own gut feelings from what i have heard up till now !!

it surprises me that statistics say you are more likeley to die in a road accident than on a plane .

yet car maintainance is skimped and dodged and little is said about mechanics etc after a road accident

yet where a machine is routineley nursed by a small opperation , fingers are pointed

you risk life getting on or in any machine sure modern builds learned from development are safer but never the less still risky ( maybe minimised but it will always be there )

i have ridden motorcycles and horses , driven niel armstrong milage and yadda yadda

my worst accident was on a pushbike two minuites from home !!

    what about this, same one…?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdOSqfzB0KY

if i remember it may have been part of the programme that went out but there have been heavy eddits since by the pc brigade

the version that goes out now has this part removed and has had the battle of britain and 633 squadron music replaced by nice pc classical music
( even though it just is not right !! )

glad the original poster found the version that is un edited it is so much better

kiffs arm falling off had me in hysterics ( even though i was called sick cos i have disabled arms )

I think I’m right in saying that they of course had flights in the Spits, but didn’t actually go over to Germany in them?

as they said it was filmed in belgium , i was bad at geography but know it isn’t quite as far !!
