You forgot £2 for a bottle of Pepsi and I take my own sandwiches now.

I was there today. Chatted to some engineers. Col spent his lunch break escorting me around, and very gratefully appreciated, the T9/Buchon/Hurricane parked on the grass outside ARCo (Piccies tomorrow or Sunday) after the Mk XVI/TD248 paid a visit to Duxford. T9 went flying in the afternoon and also the XVI again. Apart from the cold, a very enjoyable day out.

From tomorrow (Saturday) Summer times and entrance prices apply at Duxford and the Land Warfare and Hangar 3 should be open again.

At Cottesmore in 1 Sqn hangar in December last year. Cordoned off with radiation warning stickers around it.

The restrictions run from the 13 July 2012 to 12 September 2012 so shouldn’t be a problem for Legends as that’s usually at the start of July. Farnborough Air Show 2012 runs from the 9th to 15 July.

After 1.5 years doing airframe minor and major servicing on the little ones I think they are a bit more complicated than that;) we spent hours and £’s doing crack and corrosion inspections on the welded airframe, never a sign! The wirelocking on the control runs was a thought provoking job, checked by 2 SNCO’s! But, oh so easy to move when the firealarm was tested just attach a wheel to each skid and whip it outside, whilst the Whirlwind gang messed around (I had done 6 months on them that was enough reskinning for any fitter!) I did 2 years at Ternhill on my last posting, did it help me in my future civvy career, no! I became a fitter in the bakery industry:eek:

I can just remember the Sioux’s at Ternhill, my dad worked on engines, then the Gazelle’s replaced them.

    3x Dominies over Wyton – 19Jan11

Well impressed with the arrival time considering they were doing a world tour of the South of England. Arrival time at Wyton was given at 12.41, a bit exact I thought, and according to the exif info they were directly overhead at 12.40.59. So that’s the Harrier flypast, Dominie flypast which just leaves the Tornado F3, Nimrod 1 and Sentinel to go.

Then they need to change the information board!. I visited a few weeks ago and came away with the same thought. Having read the display board it tells you it is a ‘model made for a TV advert’ although I must say I thought it looked real.
It hoodwinked me, and a few others, judging by the comments from those around me that were reading from the same information board.

This is the only model made for a TV advert.

It looks as though the image in the mag was reversed, compared with the side view below it, and as the codes would be back to front, new ones rather poorly photoshoped in.

i here the TFC P40 is due a test flight soon with the hawk due out next? Any idea what dates Brian so i can test my new camera? Well any excuse really….

Has the BBMF Mk XIX left arco yet in the her new scheme?

    Mark

I have no idea on the P-40 or Hawk. A pilot was lined up to get the P-40 flying last year but then we had a bit of bad weather in the mean time. Going on past restorations, I should imagine that it would be several more months yet before the XIX is out in the sunshine again.

Ther is a brief update about the P-40 on the TFC Blog

I can hear the cries of heretic now … but for more limited interest items have you thought of just doing it digitally; PDF on a CD / DVD; or the using the digital magazine formats (subscription based??) that are around?

A while back I was looking into PDF, with hyperlinks, on CD/DVD for possible future use as that’s the format most of the publications at work are available on. On-line and on disc.

After a quick lunch from the SPAR at Cottesmore we set off in convoy, following the RN Lt, for the 20 minute trip down the A1 to RAF Wittering. Having parked up outside the MT hangar we had a leisurely ramble up a snow covered grass incline toward the taxi way that led from the dispersal to the 26 end of the runway. I had a look around and was not in a really good position as I was hoping to get some underside approach type photos. I wandered back down the slope to a big green emergency generator container and became Billy Nomates as I stood all alone by myself. I got the type of shots I wanted though. We had arrived at Wittering as the last of the morning wave were taking off but by 14.40 as the bright orange winter sun was getting close to the horizon, the first wave returned and could be seen approaching the airfield in formation. After a run and break there were lots of approaches, rollers, hovering and fly-bys. A repeat performance when the second wave returned.

I headed back to the main group as the first of the Harriers were starting to park up on the dispersal.

As the last Harrier flight of the day, a T12, rolled passed us, the sun had virtually set below the horizon. When all eight Harriers of No IV(R) Squadron were on the ground, parked up and shut down, we then had access to the dispersal for a wander around.

There was also going to be a mini night shoot but as a bit of fatigue and cold, turned out my thermal socks were not as thermal as advertised and I was developing what has turned out to be a head cold, had set in I gave that a miss and settled for the warmth of the hangar.

More images from RAF Wittering HERE

Many, many thanks to my two chauffeurs for the day, and to all the service personnel at RAF Cottesmore and RAF Wittering who went out of their way to accommodate a group of photographers interrupting their work routine at a very difficult time for them.
