Unfortunately, that hanger is not open to the public and I only got that photo as the hanger door was open.
Enjoy your visits gents.

This is going to sound so stupid but I was at Duxford about 6 months ago and didn’t see the Sunderland, either it has been moved or was very good at playing hide and seek.
Can anyone tell me what has happened to her?.
Humble John!.
The photo was taken yesterday.
Anyone know how long the aircraft will be outside for as I need a few pix before they are interned in Airspace for the duration.
Cliff see THIS from UKAR

I may have missed something here. Is the Catalina going to an airshow in France and returning to the UK or did someone in France purchase her?
Dennis
As far as I am aware it was just a day trip to France and as ‘Old Fart’ has said ‘She come over Southend soon after 5pm heading back to Duxford…’,
Probably stocking up on duty free’s 😀
Brian
She was parked in her usual spot when I arrived at Duxford this morning but soon moved to the airfield for her trip to France.

Seen at Duxford today, 6th May, near the ‘Area 51’ compound. Large ‘Australian’ container hire label on the door.
Mmmmmmmmmmm 😀

He was my Station Commander at RAF Finningley (now Doncaster Robin Hood Sheffield katmandu airport or something) back in 1987.
Station Commander when I was there as well. Every one I know up there still refers to it as Finningley.

Taken at Duxford in May last year

The red circle in the top photo does look a bit big compared to the lower one, or is it just me.

Didn’t Julian get a bit annoyed when he was flying an Agusta 109 (I think) and the regular pilot insinuated that he wasn’t that experienced, and Julian replied, ‘I am an experienced Helicopter Pilot, I am ex-military’ or something to that effect!
I remember him flying an American Apache at Farnborough and uttering words of a similar substance to the Yank in the back as they were hovering a few feet off the ground.

The first airshow I can remember was at RAF Acklington after we returned from Singapore in 1962. I remember it because those were the days when a silver Lightning would fly, un-announced, along the length of the runway at what looked like zero feet and then go ballistic with full re-heat and a nice loud boom. Not quite a supersonic boom but loud enough. :p The one and only way to open an airshow.

Indeed so, lovely shots there. I too was at Brooklands the other day. Unfortunately it was an impulse visit so I had no camera etc, hence no pictures. Apologies! It was the first time I’ve been there and I was most impressed.
Two things though.
Great shots Pen Pusher, but did you not manage to get a shot of the Hurricane being restored?! I assume it was in the hangar next to ‘R – Robert’?
Secondly, did you see on your visit, the freaky Ani-bod thing sat in the car next to the Billiards Room?! I’m sure it’s great technology but I was very very freaked out by it, especially when it started humming!
Once again, brilliant pics.
Rich.
Thanks guys and for JDK another view of the ‘Full Scale Model’ of the Fury.
rich82, I presume you are talking about the guy in the red car. All he did was just sit there and did nothing as I took his photo.

Brian, the metal templates were used as part of a process which allowed accurate reproduction of a pattern for cutting / forming of many identical metal components, it involved a form of photo etching and lithography. This was in the days before CNC machines and water jet / laser jet cutters.
The concrete formers were used in sheet metal stretch presses which both pulled and stamped the metal at the same time, mainly used for skins etc. reinforced concrete was used as a ‘lowcost’ method of producing tooling for limited runs of parts, sometimes just one offs. The process is still used today in low volume & prototype applications, although now the media used can even be a reinforced plastic rather than concrete.
Thanks for that Jagx204 explains a lot.

Didn’t forget to photograph it GASDY, just forgot to add it to the gallery, which I shall rectify tomorrow. 🙂
Thax for the car info Septic.

Very nice photos, cheers for sharing them. Interesting car in the glass case type thing outside, did it say what sort of car it was?
Thanks chaps but sorry Rlangham, there was nothing on the box to say what the car was. It’s a travelling exhibit as I am sure I have seen it somewhere else before.
