Thank you LH for sharing some of the info which has been shared with you, though the instruction to ‘you lot ‘ to keep quiet is not appreciated. Your ‘least of all anyone here’ observation airily dismisses the wealth of knowledge and experience amongst the thousands of forum members
And wealth of knowledge and experience you failed to show with your comment
So where WERE the emergency services ? Not a fire truck in sight here.

On scene before the pilot has vacated the aircraft.

Looking at the film, that strikes me as finger trouble, looks like a normal approach, canopy only jettisoned as he is sliding down the runway and not a solitary fire engine deployed to follow him down the runway or awaiting him at the other end. So the emergency services were not expecting him.
Another armchair expert who wasn’t there but knows exactly what happened, why it happened and if it was him, wouldn’t have happened and who gets all his information from watching Hollywood films.

A quiet day, flying wise, and a bit warm with it as well. The Bronco did three displays, getting lower each time and TFC’s P-40C went up for a test flight for about 30 minutes. The Sea Vixen flew up from Yeovilton and did a couple of circuits so the pilot could get the lay of the land for his display at the weekend. Highlight was the arrival of the Osprey late afternoon and rumour has it that a Pavehawk and Apache will be joining the line up. Subject to the usual’s.

Nothing sinister just turning into the wind, which was blowing across the runway, to land. The Tiger Moth is pointing roughly the same direction.

Although there was a bit of blue sky and sunshine, I did end up wearing gloves as there was a bit of wind chill in the blustery breeze. Classic wings were active again with their Rapide and Tiger Moths and Spitfire/PV202 and Harvard Wacky Wabbit. Spitfire Mk Ia/P7308 was out for a 20 minute test flight. In the order taken.

A sunny, warm day at Duxford but the clouds always seem to roll in just as there was any flying taking place. A busy day with Spitfire T9/NH341 headed off to Headcorn for the weekend. A nice line up outside ARCo of the Blenheim/Buchon/Spitfire T9 which were being used as a backdrop for a photoshoot. A Chipmunk pair were in for training and Harvard’s ‘Taz’ & KF183, the ex Boscombe aircraft, flew out for an away day. TFC had their Gladiator out for and engine run, the Jungmann flew some aerobatics and TF-51D/’Miss Velma’ flew off to the north for a while with a spot of aerial maneuvers on its return.

Sunday 14th May
An excellent day for photography with blue sky, sunshine and more importantly no haze. Classic Wings were very busy with Rapide, Tiger Moth, Harvard and Spitfire ‘Fly In’ and ‘Fly With’ flights. Excuse the low level shots but the new crowd fence line goes all the way down to the ground so any snatched ground level shots are a thing of the past now so I was taking advantage of the few gaps that are still available before they are filled.

is that we could have a weeks notice at least to a possible test flight?
Possibly but highly unlikely. It is up to the BBMF when the Lancaster goes flying, not ARCo or IWM Duxford, and more likely a decision would be made the day before based on the forecast for the next day. Just have to keep an eye on the BBMF Facebook/Twitter pages for them to announce a date and time as it would liable to be at very short notice.
Brian
An air test will take place when the weather/wind conditions allow.
How do you put a date and time on that?.
Brian
Already covered in the Duxford Diary.

They are starting to rebuild the hangar that was blown up in the BoB film …..

…..or it’s where they are putting the art installation, in a big tent.
