Carnaby/Regent Streets
A lot of recycling of Christmas decorations this year as Oxford Street are using their ‘Snowballs’ again and Bond Street have the same ‘Peacock Feathers’ theme from last year.
Carnaby Street, which is just off Regent Street, have a new Christmas theme based on an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum called ‘You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970’. Personally I think they have taken a cheap and easy option and phoned it in. Not impressed with Carnaby Street this year.

Crown Estates, who own Regent Street, have gone all nostalgic and the display for this year is based on the first Christmas lights, floating Angels, which went up along Regent Street in 1954.

Chancellor of the Exchequer provides RAF Museum with £3m in today’s Autumn Statement
Financial penalties levied on banks involved in the LIBOR lending rate-fixing scandal will benefit the RAF Museum in North West London, the Chancellor Philip Hammond announced today.
In today’s Autumn Statement, the Chancellor Philip Hammond announced that the RAF Museum will receive £3m LIBOR funds for its 2018 RAF Centenary Programme. The money will specifically support the development of a new exhibition and a dedicated Learning Centre – both of which are part of the Museum’s wider RAF Centenary Programme which celebrates and commemorates 100 years of the RAF in 2018.
The new exhibition will explore the impact of the Royal Air Force on world events, society and technology since the Cold War through its many roles during the past 40 years – during an ‘age of uncertainty’. As part of the Museum’s contemporary collecting strategy, it is actively seeking out inspiring objects and stories that will engage visitors with the RAF’s recent history, to display in this innovative new gallery.
The dedicated Learning Centre will underpin the Museum’s Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) programme along with hosting both formal and lifetime learning activities in history, literacy, art and design.
Chief Executive of the RAF Museum Maggie Appleton said “It’s wonderful to be given such a high level of support from the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the Museum’s RAF Centenary Programme. The stories we want to share reflect the bravery, ingenuity and dedication of RAF men and women working in today’s complex and challenging environment with space for our visitors to reflect on and join in the discussion from their own personal perspectives.”
The RAF Museum’s RAF Centenary Programme is a £23.5m project which will transform the site in North West London making it more accessible and welcoming to a new generation of visitors. Work has already begun for a completion date of summer 2018 and today’s grant of £3m means that the Museum is now in the final stretch of fundraising.

A quiet day at Duxford although there was a possibility of the Sopwith Pup, based in hangar 3, having an engine run and was it was also due a second flight. It hadn’t emerged by the time I had left but I was told later that it was up flying when the museum closed at 4pm. Having left Duxford in French Air Force markings, T-28 Fennec/G-TROY returned to Duxford on Tuesday with a new identity. It has now been repainted as a T-28 Trojan and is in the original markings it carried when flying with the USAF Training Command in March 1953. Apologies for going overboard on the T-28 but a silver aeroplane parked in the sunshine with storm clouds above made for some interesting photographic opportunities. Until it started raining. In the order they were taken.

Having fought off a hacking/coughing head cold for the last two weeks, I though it was time to get out and about again and see if I could remember how to get to Duxford. The cold, brisk northerly wind certainly did clear out the cobwebs. Apart from the Victor fuselage taking up residence in 5 hangar for the next 3+ years and TFC having a shuffle around of their fleet in hangar 2, not a lot had changed since my last visit. Very quiet flying wise with only the Classic Wings Cessna 172 and Rapide doing a couple of flights and there were a couple of GA visitors.

In the TV series, the invisible aeroplane wasn’t exactly invisible.

If you open up the comments in the Facebook thread, ARCo do actually say what the masking tape is for.
Aircraft Restoration Company Hey Ashley, masking tape is used to mark areas of the skins that were found to require attention during the initial visual examination. These findings are all very normal during an aircrafts major maintenance program and, once identified, will be marked and noted ready for the necessary repair work to be carried out.
