Wednesday 19th September
Being a gusty, blustery day I wasn’t expecting any flying at Duxford BUT the Catalina flew off to Cambridge airport for a couple of hours crew training and a pipeline survey Cabri G2 helicopter flew in for a pit stop. Outside 5 hangar a team of contractors was putting together a Full Scale Model of a Typhoon, with a red RAF 100 logo on the tail, even though there is a real Typhoon just inside the doors of 5 hangar. Outside 4 hangar another team of contractors was putting together another FSM that had RAF markings and looked like a hideous lump of grey plastic and a reject from Thunderbirds. Duxford’s latest Hurricane resident was tucked up inside 4 hangar.

As it’s Battle of Britain Day, September 15th, I was hoping for a bit of Spitfire flying at Duxford. I wasn’t disappointed as there were 6 flying. Mk.1/N3200, 3x T.9’s/PV202/SM520/TD462, Mk.XVIe/TD248 and Mk.XVIII/SM845.

The museum held their second ‘Lets have some display flying and not tell any one about it on social media until late the afternoon before’ afternoon. This time it was the ARCo based Harvard/Taz and Stearman and TFC’s Bearcat and Corsair. With wall to wall cloud, light for photography was bad and the Stearman and Harvard displayed a bit high and didn’t venture much down to the M11 end. TFC played ball with the Bearcat/Corsair arriving as a pair, displaying separately and finishing as a pair.

So the forum has changed. If you were paying a subscription to it then I can understand the spitting out dummies and throwing toys out of the pram bit but you’re getting access to it for free and Key can just as easily pull it what with all the problems it’s had recently.

Background looks very light grey on both my computers. No pink tinge at all.

Saturday 25th August
Apart from Classic Wings, it’s been a bit quiet flying wise on a Saturday since Legends but it appears to be picking up a bit now. P-51/Miss Helen flew away for the day and the Great War Display Team’s BE2c and SE5a dropped in on their way back to Sywell. The ARCo Lysander/V9312 was out for a couple of high speed taxi runs, but no flying, and the Blenheim flew off to North Wales and back to take part in the Rhyl Air Show. All three of the Duxford based Harvard’s were up flying as well. In the order taken

EVF, Electronic View Finder before any one asks, all the time. I have the grid and electronic level turned on and as long as you keep the horizon across the center line of the viewfinder frame then the verticals are vertical. Move the horizon above or below the centre line of the frame and the verticals start to converge which you can see happening in an EVF but not in an optical viewfinder. For the close up shots where I can’t see the horizon then I use the grid to get the vertical lines vertical.

Mmmm, a Piece of Cake. 😀
