Continuing the Blackbird theme –
Former SR-71 Blackbird pilot Colonel Richard Graham returns to IWM Duxford on Sunday 1 March.
At 11am, Colonel Graham will present a talk about his experiences of flying the SR-71 and, specifically, how it compares and contrasts so dramatically with flying other conventional aircraft. Colonel Graham will also share his memories of flying the Lockheed U-2 spy plane, predecessor of the SR-71, and the Douglas F-4 Phantom during combat missions in Vietnam.
The talk will take place in the Marshall Auditorium in AirSpace. Immediately following the talk, there will be an opportunity for book signings.
At 1pm, Colonel Graham will host a walk-around tour of the SR-71 Blackbird that he previously flew from RAF Mildenhall, which is on display in the American Air Museum.
Following the tour, there will be a further opportunity for book signings.

American Air Museum Temporary Closure
The American Air Museum will be closed from 4 March 2015 until Spring 2016 for an exciting redevelopment. During this time, you can get up close to most of the iconic US aircraft from the exhibition in new locations across the museum. More information will be available soon.

Winter snow arrived overnight at Duxford although it did begin to turn to slush a bit as it warmed up a bit during the morning. The TFC Bearcat in hangar 2 is undergoing a bit of winter TLC and the Mk.1a Spitfire/P7380 has been turned into a bit of a convertible. I haven’t seen it for a while but there is an owl resident in hangar 3 and what I hadn’t seen before was that there is a ‘Duck’ resident in AirSpace. A stuffed 5lb Aylesbury duck to be precise of the type used to test bird strikes on engines. Never fear there is a disclaimer to say the duck died a natural death before it got to the taxidermist.

The snow line started a couple of miles north of Duxford and apparently was thicker the further south you went.

The forecast was for a bit of snow on Saturday so I headed off down to Duxford for what turned out to be an actual ‘bit’ of snow with a flurry which lasted about 30 seconds then the clouds rolled back and it was blue sky and sunshine. Again.
