Traffic stacked as far back as Royston on the 505, Catalina is shuttling aircrew in from Cambridge airport.

Despite the wall to wall cloud that persisted all day, the sun started shining as I was leaving, there was sufficient visibility for a spot of flying although lighting for photography was atrocious. The ARCo Beaver did three practice displays after which JCB 2, a Sikorsky S-76C helicopter, called in for maintenance checks just as the TFC Hawk 75 was heading out for a display. Just after that the Gladiator flew south to Goodwood and the P-40F took off followed by the ARCo Harvard/’Taz’ for a spot of air to air photography after which the P-40F flew a display routine.

I’ve seen a lot of people at Duxford wearing the tour hat so you will definitely need the Times and the carnation. I’ll be wearing a hat that has ‘Grumpy Old Man’ on it. π

My take on the flying action.

At Old Warden the aircraft aren’t far enough away to get to use 600mm but the glider and Be2c’s are at 600mm. The exif info (right click cursor on photo and click ‘view exif info’) is all there.
The Gladiator pilot was seeing which way the other Gladiator was going :D.

Might be nice if the museum acknowledged the post war role of AT and Maritime rather than ignoring it or palming it off to Cosford……
Have you not been to Hendon? I would have thought the two rather large boats in the car park would be a clue to a Maritime theme at Hendon along with the Sunderland and the displays around the Stranraer.

Wall to wall cloud all day, but warm with it, which made the diffused lighting for photography a bit interesting. TFC had their P-40F out on the airfield for an engine run which meant work on preparing the Gladiator for Old Warden on Sunday was put on hold as it sat outside until the P-40F was back in the hangar. All the panels on the Glad were back on when I left. The Beech C-45H Expediter/’Southern Comfort’ took off from the Duxford grass with its next stop being Prague. A DHL sponsored Extra EA200 was doing circuits for a short time and hopefully something slightly larger in those marking at the air show next weekend. Spitfire T.9/PV202 went up for a couple of aerobatic displays and as it was touching down the TFC Bearcat celebrated its return from Shoreham with a spot more aerobatics before landing.

Arrived back this afternoon. π

The main event of the day at Duxford on Sunday was the Royal Anglian Regiment Diamond Jubilee presentation of new colours for all Battalions, being held opposite the Land Warfare Hall, with the regiment Commander-in-Chief the Duke of Gloucester in attendance. The other main event was would the war birds that had gone down to Shoreham for the air show, return to Duxford before the museum closed at 6 O’clock. They did, just. Sally-B touched down first and then as the Hellcat was landing on the grass, ARCo formation with TFC TF-51 ‘Miss Velma’ mixing it with them called in for a run and brake. The Mk1 Spitfire did a separate run and break before landing. Photos in the order they were taken.

With an air show on at Shoreham this weekend, there were plenty of war bird departures from ARCo,TFC, OFMC the Catalina and B-17 ‘Sally-B’. ARCo were holding a Friends of Duxford βBehind The Scenes at ARCβ event which culminated in the two Buchons and two Spitfires performing a mass take off and then they flew back in formation over ARCo for an impressive pass before heading south. Not often you see The Fighter Collection’s heavy aircraft taking off from the grass, but they all did one take off and one landing on the grass before heading off in pairs for the weekend. The Jet Provost T5A did a run and break then touched down and parked up among the GA aircraft opposite hangar 5. Photos in the order they were taken.

Not yet as I recently had a visit with the Sony A7

Without putting on my anorak and boring people π it has something to do with the smaller 12mp sensor size which apparently means it has larger sized ‘pixels’ on the sensor which can take in more light and information. According to the reviews ISO 6,400 on the A7s is the about equivalent of ISO 1,600 on other full frame cameras and you can go up to 12,800 before ‘digital noise’ starts putting in an appearance and then you really have to look for it. As I said they were taken in Jpeg and would probably be better in RAW. The A7s is also being marketed as a 4K (no idea what that means) video camera rather than a stills camera.
