Don’t the Victor and Shackleton belong to the IWM and the 1-11 and Ambassador, along with the rest of the airliners, do not.?

Departure of Sea Vampire T.22/XG743/597 from Hangar 3 at a rather soggy Duxford.

Just a couple of angles from me of the ‘Harry Tate’ departure yesterday.

Following my second stint of wing walking at Duxford (See Above and we were stopping it going walkies in the wind by the way) I thought I’d try something different with some panorama shots around the Old Flying Machine Company part of hangar 3 with my Sony SLT A-57. I only had my 16-105mm lens with me and the panorama mode works better with my 11-18mm wide angle lens. The Re.8 was where the Spitfire is parked now, and following an engine run on MH434 we pulled it outside and pushed it back in and parked it at the front of the hangar so it could be easily extracted should the wind drop sufficiently for it to get back to Old Warden. Many thanks to Joe for the access.

What is the latest on this? According to RAFM, were we not to be told by the end of April 2012 if lottery funding had been granted?
From the architectsjournal.co.uk dated 23 May, 2012
Wilkinson Eyre has vowed to fight on after the Heritage Lottery Fund rejected a bid for a cash grant towards its proposed £30 million ‘landmark’ to house the Royal Air Force Museum’s Battle of Britain collection
Jim Eyre, co-founder of Wilkinson Eyre Architects, said: ‘We are incredibly disappointed with the decision but are committed to working with the RAF Museum to help them realise this great project.’
The practice won the scheme in May last year following a major contest (see below). Among the losing finalists was Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios(FCBS) which had previously drawn up a feasibility study for a 116m-tall ‘twisted beacon’ conceptfor the site in Hendon, north-west London-.
The project was originally schedule to complete in 2015 in time to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Meanwhile it is understood Wilkinson Eyre has separately been asked to look at a masterplan for the wider Hendon site.

Yes. 😀

Another arrival from South Lambeth, the cockpit section of an A6M5 Zero fighter in temporary residence in Hangar 3

Just a couple from me on the Albatros on the move in the sunshine today.

Stu flew the Albatros out of Duxford just after doors opened this morning.

I went to Duxford today to get some record shots of the removal of the Varsity from hangar 4. Sideways. It didn’t happen and wont for a while now. I did get to assist in moving the Albatross in Hangar 3 though. MH434 was off to Goodwood but the Albatross was in the way. With myself and another gentleman pulling and then pushing on the wing struts, at the place we were told to hold it and Alister Kay steering at the rear, we moved it outside and kept hold of it to steady it in the blustery winds while Jo pulled the Spitfire out with the tractor and then we pushed it back in and all over in about 90 seconds. I was surprised by how light in weight the Albatross was. For some reason I was expecting something a bit heavier. Other highlight of the day was John Romain flying the Mk.1 Spitfire, on a photo shoot with ‘Taz’, with a bit of aerobatics thrown in when he returned. The Me.108 was flying as I left.

Not something you see everyday at Duxford – 09Sep12

Brian
There were a lot of people there today, quite crowded, and quite a few sporting regalia with the Vulcan on it. See tomorrow if the crowd is smaller. Unfortunately it was a bit of a bland display and hardly worth the transit fuel and engine hours.

Brian
So……if you join Friends of Duxford, you can get some internal access ?????
Pardon 😮
