    From the Glasgow Evening Times.

AMERICAN Airlines today axed its direct flights from Glasgow to Chicago.
The airline is understood to be restructuring its UK and Ireland operations and has decided to ditch the summer service which ran to O’Hare International Airport.
It only relaunched this year’s seasonal service from Glasgow to Chicago on May 2. The flights, which took eight hours, were expected to operate daily until September 30, but today the firm pulled the plug on the route.
The news comes just days after hundreds of passengers faced huge delays in Glasgow and Chicago after two flights were cancelled.
An American Airlines flight from Chicago was due to arrive at Glasgow Airport on Monday morning.
Leslie Peden, the airline’s UK sales director, insisted in February that the service was attracting enough interest and was increasingly successful.
However, airline sources say passenger uptake on the transatlantic route, has not been as good as expected.
They claim American Airlines does not have a large a sales presence in Scotland and it was difficult for it to attract corporate travellers.
Glasgow Airport bosses BAA Glasgow, today said they would like to concentrate on all-year-round routes to the USA and were in talks with other airlines about potential routes to the USA.
A spokesman said: “We are disappointed at the loss of this summer service to Chicago.
“However, we are in discussion with other carriers interested in operating year round from Glasgow to major cities in the US, and we are hopeful of making progress in the weeks ahead. The US remains an important tourism market.”
No-one from American Airlines was available to comment on the flights.

Might well be as delta are in the process of certifying their B757’s for TA routes.

Yea herd about that but are the DL 757s not going to be used from JFK and not BOS?

Shame, i can see someone like GSM coming in on the BOS route for some reason!

    GLA-MAN-BOS-MAN-GLA / MAN-GLA-BOS-GLA-MAN or even a W GLA-BOS-MAN-BOS-GLA. šŸ˜€

Is this North West and KLM all over again? Axing routes from the regions (Glasgow, Manchester and Shannon) and sending people on BA via London.

Hopefully MAN, GLA and SNN will get ā€œreplacementā€ flights for these although I cant see it coming from American Airlines.

AA have announced that they will be dropping their BOS-SNN service this winter due to awful loads but willcontinue their DUB-ORD service unfortunatley with the Ireland/US bilateral air aggrement the way it is it meens the ORD-DUB service now has to route ORD-DUB-SNN-ORD. I wish SNN would just go away.

Hi, don’t know much about this so excuse the ignorance but why do a lot of TX flights from DUB need to go via SNN? It seems really strange but I don’t know anything about it…

Look on Amedeus for next summer. GLA-ORD shows as going via MAN, AMS or LHR.
MAN-ORD shows up with AA and BD.
GLA-ORD doesn’t show as a nonstop flight in August.

Anyway, even though GLA-ORD seems to be getting dropped, apparently there is a US airline that may announce GLA-DTW in the near future šŸ˜‰

I hope your right about a ā€œreplacementā€ airline but why on earth would any airline want to start USA-GLA service on the back of AA axing it after something like 12 years?

A lot of rumours are readily available on Airliners.net forum for people to believe.

Indeed, if we believed everything on airlines.net then EDI would be closed by now, FlyGlobespan would be operating to Boston by now, AA would be operating GLA-BOS by now, non off them came true so why believe this one, especial when you can still book GLA-ORD on the AA site.
