unfortunately, life has taught us to keep our sovereignity by keeping strong armed forces…
any Cessna 172 RG? 😎
Mark12, great photos!
Cessna 172RG, do you have an id for the Cessna 195? Also, do you know if any of the FACH Cessna T-41As has been preserved?
Regards,
Jan
Jan: the Cessna 195 is dressed as CC-FCC, later CC-ECC, look at this photo of it in its current status:

No Cessna T-41s have been preserved, but at lest three of them are still airworthy with Aguilas Blancas Aero Club (the ex FACh officers and cadets aero club). I saw these on October 9 at Melipilla.

C172RG
LesB:
today, the ‘343’ looks exactly as in the third photo you posted here…I’ve heard that the second Caberra is going to be repainted soon.
Best,
C172RG
the one in the photo is FACh 343; 341 is in much poorer condition at the Museo’s facilities…
Cheers

In anycase my big blue book on “World Airforces Inventories” published in 1988 suggests the Chilian Air force then consisted of the following aircraft engaged in some form of “trainer” role:28 x Cessna A-37 (light attack & training) – being superceded
20 x Cessna T-37B/C (trainer)
8 x Cessna T41 Mescalero (trainer)These were all? due to be replaced by Embraer EMB Tucano’s, Halcons and Aviojets
already in service were:
80 x ENAER T-36 Halcon (basic/aerobatic/Instrument trainer)
26 x CASA Aviojet (trainer)
32 x Hawker Hunter (fighter bomber/trainer)
15 x Northrup(SIC) F5E Tiger II (interceptor/trainer)
10x Piper PA-28 Dakota (trainer)
5x Pitts S-2A Special
1x Sequoia Falco (trainer) 😮Navy
10x Pilatus PC-7(turbo trainer)
Army
16-18? x Cessna R172 Hawk (trainer)(…)
In the 60s and 70’s Chile operated the following trainers:
Cessna T-37B/C
Beech 45 (T-34) by both FACh and Navy
Lockheed T-33A
N.A. T-6
Beech 99A (navigation trainers)
Cessna T-41
The T-6s were retired in 1979, T-33s by 1974, T-37s in 1998, T-34s in 1987 (in the Navy were phased out service in 1980), and T-41s were retired in 1981. The Beech 99s were retrofitted for ASW tasks.
The current aircraft list is as follows:
ENAER T-35 Pillan
ENAER (CASA) C-101/A/T-36 Halcon
Piper (ENAER) PA-28-236 Dakota
the Navy has 6 PC-7s and Army has four Cessna R172K Hawk XP IIs
The Pitts S2A/S were flown by Escuadrilla de Alta Acrobacia Halcones :p , being replaced by 1990 by the Extra 300s. The Falco F-8 was assembled by ENAER after request of a private operator.
NO Tucanos have been bought, and the Aviojet/Halcon is the SAME aircraft… 😡

ooops..I forget to mention that the Museo aeronáutico has a pair of fully-restored DH.115 and those bits have been moved since. One of the Mentors that appear in a photo parked outside the main building was an example -of two- currently owned by Club Aéreo de Santiago (Santiago’s Aero Club); there’s another Model 45 in private hands (the owner dressed this one in a ‘Lima-Lima’ colour scheme)

Museo Aeronautico
hi all;
I could tell that, since those photos were taken, the following aircraft have been restored:
-Vultee BT-13
-Cessna 195
-Aeronca L-3B Grasshopper
-the FACh C-47 has been resprayed
-the Catalina is undergoing a deep restoration, as it is going to be rebuilt to represent the ‘Manu-tara’ aircraft, the first plane to reach Easter Island from Chile’s mainland in the fifties.
With regards the Bleriot, it is a replica, too as are the M1Cs, Avro 504 and S.E.5A. There’s an odd replica of a Wright Flyer 😮 .
Another aviation museum in Chile is the one located at Base Aeronaval Viña del Mar -near Valparaiso-: the Navy has preserved a UP-3A, EMB111A(N), EMB110C(N), Beechcraft 45, D18S, Bell 47G and a C-47H.
