I am flying to Liverpool this saturday, FR from Santiago. Well, I have been checking the weather forecast (I am a fearfull flier) and doesnΒ΄t sound too good. Seems a bit to windy……a 20 mph winds could cause a rough landing?. Anyone one from LPL could update the conditions for saturday?. I am thinking of cancelling the flight. I know I am a paranoic :confused:

Don’t worry mate, the wind on landing generally only becomes relevant if it’s gusting and/or it’s a crosswind, a 20kt crosswind will be ok too, just remember the air is like a big cushion, the plane is going nowhere, it rides the bumps a bit like a ship does on the sea, treat the turbulance like a fairground ride, it’s lots of fun :D, I say this to my pax when encountering turbulance, just enjoy it π
Looking at the MetOffice, Saturday is supposed to be a fine day with some scattered Sc, and a 15kt wind, which looks like it will be straight down the runway, so no issues at all, enjoy it

I suggest that if rwy 27 is active just walk out onto the A38 and watch them come in right over the top the road, you can get some fantastic shots from there, and as Joe says in the other post just be careful you are not moved on, if you haven’t got a ladder there’s not much point going around the perimeter road to view 09 arrivals or 27 departures.

There is a good post running over on Prune about this in Rumours & news, you are correct via the TCAS, it needs transponder interrogation to work, the 738 would not have seen the Legacy & visa versa, if you want some more technical details I can post them or you can google it, if the Legacy’s transponder was indeed off then a whole can of worms will be opened, time will tell.
As for the landing gear, the FDR will reveal if the crew extended it, they may have done for a few reasons, I’ll leave the speculation as to why to others, because debating this will speculate as to the events after the crash π
