The problem with all this is that BA cannot continue to survive the way it is. What is wrong is that you have senior long haul pursers on nearly £80,000 per year. This is more than the right hand seat in the flight deck, and what I have been told they spend most of their time “delegating”. It is hard for anyone’s terms & conditions to be degraded, this is where the sticking point is.
I was in a similar situation in my last job, we were on an inordinate amount of money for a skilled trade, this is because there weren’t that many of us around (there still isn’t today), but the (global) company got into a bit of difficulty on a regional level, we were heavily unionised and there was talk of “I’m not taking a pay cut, no matter what”. Well I asked, and I ask the BA cabin crew what is the alternative? Pick up your local Evening Post and look at what job you can do to get paid what you do. I can tell you there are none, period, so it’s either take a pay cut (& still be paid more than any job you’d be able to get), or lose your job and collect £254 per month. It’s this kind of militant attitude that will bring down a company but they’re too blind to see it. BA Cabin Crew – look at your alternatives, your package doesn’t look so bad now.

I have alot of respect for you but you don’t seem to get it, without spelling it out there is a perfectly valid reason why we cannot, and will not discuss MH or A1 here, it’s all to do with the courts. Without actually saying it I don’t know how else you want it spelt out. It’s the way it is unfortunately and we can’t change that, this is why it is off limits.
