As a side note heslop I didn’t think Loui had much choice. The public are to blame for putting those 2 in the bottom in the first place, whether this was because they have their favourites or whether they are not voting for the best singers because they think “ahh they’ll be safe anyway” we’ll never know.
But if you take the 2 songs in the sing off Ruth’s was far far better in my opinion. (& she’s bloody hot :D)
Daniel isn’t “crap” at all, he’s very very good, but he’s one of the weaker ones left in the competition.

This is a free forum (within reason) and posting about the X Factor is perfectly acceptable in “General Chat“.
If you don’t like it then don’t read it, that is the freedom of choice that you can exercise. Please don’t chastise fellow forumites for having interests that you do not share

To be honest Sam it doesn’t matter what the scanner costs, it’s all to do with range, if you use this little formula to work it out.
1.25 x βΒ― H1 + 1.25 x βΒ― H2
Where H1 = height of the transmitter station (ATC)
Where H2 = height of the receiver (your scanner)
Or
H1 = height of the transmitting aircraft
H2 = height of your receiver
So if an aircraft is at 20,000ft it’s transmit range to you should you be at 100ft agl is 189 miles, so you will pick this up ok.
Should you look at the formula for an airport then if the airport is 200ft agl and you are 100ft agl then the receiving range is 30 miles.
But as this signal is trying to travel across the ground most of the way it will be hit by things in the way such as buildings & trees etc.
In my experience if you’re quite a way from an airfield you won’t pick it up.
Dean
Sam where do you live? Are you near any airports? Sorry where is Kingston?
If you live near an airport then you should be ok with it, but you are more than likely going to get get 1 way conversation, i.e. the aircraft talking to Air Traffic rather than the other way around. The reason being is line of sight radio waves.
You will also be able to pick up aircraft in the airways above provided you are within range and you know the frequencies.
As far as listening to ATC it is highly illegal, so I am in no way advocating the use of airband scanners to pick up ATC broadcast π
Didn’t manage to get any instructing done at Gloucester today (the usual weather), but one of our instructors saw & heard it happen, well done to all involved, certainly not the ideal time for an EFATO that’s for sure.
That all depends on what your perception of value for money is tenthije
Value for money is quite subjective, personally I think you actually get what you pay for. For instance, a flight to Paris Beauvais, great, it cost Β£5, but it costs another Β£50 for the taxi fare into Paris (which is where I wanted to go in the first place)
PS, please learn how to spell Stansted, itβs not Stanstead.
To be honest FFS you’re a hypocrite.
If you have nothing constrictive to say
There was me thinking it was “constructive”
plenty others will.

See we can all whinge & moan about spelling & grammar, but please get yours in order before moaning about others.
Just remember alot of people may be less fortunate than yourself and didn’t do that well at school (not that anyone here hasn’t to my knowledge), so spelling & grammar may not be their strong points. We welcome everyone to the forum.
Whilst we’re on the subject of Ryanair, there is nothing wrong with people posting what they like provided it is within the CoC posted at the top of the page, & is not libellous in any way (which I suggest you have a wee read).
Now we are all free to click the “red box” at the top of the page if we don’t like what we are reading. Failing that take it up with the webmaster.
Back to topic please

Why oh why drag up a post that is nearly 5 years old?
Please review the forum CoC found here
Then if you already know the procedure why are you asking?
The HS-748 did not have bags of performance, typically it’s climb speeds were quite slow so I wouldn’t imagine the landing lights would be ripped off below anything like 180kts at the very least.
Regarding your little green tick, to be honest that’s irrelevant, you can interpret this to mean anything you like, I would imagine it gives you a green tick regardless of when you switch them off, and I would bet you would get that green tick whether you switched them off at 5,000ft, 10,000ft, or 25,000ft, and at any speed. Unfortunately this is the limiting factor of freeware flight sim downloads.
Your bored of seeing the DH8D at Southampton? Face it, if they weren’t there then SOU wouldn’t exist in it’s current form today.
And YAWN? Sorry you don’t like them, they are “slightly” more interesting to fly than your computerized version of the HS-748 π

What do you think I do for a living? π
The landing lights/10,000ft is not mandatory, i.e there is nothing in ICAO land or JAR land that dictates it, but it is an AC or Advisory Circular stating all pilots should adhere to it to promote safety, now nearly all airlines adopt this procedure in their SOPs
However, with this in mind the manufacturers AOM will have specifics regarding the use of landing lights on the ground, but this can be overruled by local airport procedures.
The correct procedure for landing lights is this.
On clearance to line up on the runway – strobes on – landing lights on.
They remain on until passing FL100 (or 10,000ft) regardless of weather/cloud etc.
They are then switched on when passing FL100 (or 10,000ft) on the way down.
On vacating the active runway – Landing lights/strobe lights off.
Hope this helps

FSX? not with that spec.
You really need a duel core minimum to get even medium performance.
There’s nothing wrong with FS9.

It’s too heavy for the main apron, also the runway isn’t grooved so there are issues when it’s wet & when icing conditions provail
