That’s like saying ‘I will continue slamming my head against this girder.. now if only I knew why I have this headache’.

Forgive me, but this is BL**DY FUNNY!
Surely you realise that you will be better off in real terms, but as you didn’t go to Eton you won’t understand why? Furthermore it is for your own good – you will learn responsibility. Trebles all round! Vote Conservative!
Sorry, but you’ve got to admit, the irony is off the scale.
Are you familiar with the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller? It begins ‘First they came…’

” it shows that he is overriding the democratic will of the party to suit his own agenda”
Actually no.
He disagrees with the front-benchers who pre-dated his election, but he was overwhelmingly democratically elected by the party who were fully aware of his position on this while doing so.
Opponents of straight-shooters need to shoot straight.

TonyT, think about that for a second. The US and the UK had a nuclear deterrent, and did not, could not, guarantee the Ukraine’s safety. So tell them what, exactly?
Putin acts with impunity now, when we have nukes. So what is your point? That he would try to invade Britain if we had spent 20bn a year on defences other than Trident?

So go on, what exactly is the purpose of our nuclear deterrent? I know what it WAS, but as many have pointed out it isn’t the seventies any more. I think it needs explanation, who exactly are we planning to nuke? And for any God’s sake, why?
Not just 9/11. How about 1982? Under what circumstance is it going to be of any bleedin use to us at all? No matter how big a bang it can make.

Surely old tories must see him as a hero? He has made an enormous amount of money (Becoming fabulously rich, I understand from reading the Telegraph, helps everyone in the UK – though I can never seem to find the part that explains how).
As a PM he prevented a Labour Government from spoiling the party for any ‘natural conservatives’.
What’s not to like, Charlie and Linc?

Let’s hope so for every Mail reader’s sake. At last, a political story they can understand. Man falls over! Proof if it were needed that the socio-economic theories of his party are invalid!
The speech had a couple of bits in it that were adapted from something written by Richard Heller for a leader’s speech four years ago but which were rejected by Miliband (IMHO because they appeared to contain egalitarian beliefs).
However, I am sure that by the time the British press have finished with it it will be a speech written by Stalin and delivered while strangling kittens.
