Something peculiar is definitely going on.

Maybe because they can say what they like about him personally now, without fear of the heavy hand of ‘regulation’, because they now know who has the pig photograph? ..just using my imagination again, but it would certainly make a great plot for a political thriller.. House of Cards meets Black Mirror.

On a more mundane level, I think it is to oust Cameron – those that feel they can control the agenda through the popular press are now certain that the Corbyn factor makes the Tories a dead cert for the next election, so there’s no risk of the ‘wrong’ government getting in as result of any personal dissing they might do at this stage – and so they feel they can now safely put the knife in and get someone even more ‘on message’ in place.

It’s all turned ugly for some reason, that much is evident.

Agree with a lot of that. The club.. would be an irrelevance if it hadn’t contained our PM and Chancellor, as well as the London Mayor. That made it of passing interest to me 🙂

In terms of divisions my arm-waving theory of the day would be that there are probably two main ones that interact in interesting ways – class and money. Far from the same thing any more, but still powerful dividing forces in their own, very separate, ways.

Bullingdon seemed to me to be more about the insulating property of money, rather than class. Illustrated both by the make-up of it’s members, conspicuous wastage of cash featuring in their worst excesses, and by the staunch philistinism of the society’s tenets.

Never said it was simple, it certainly isn’t Cleese, Barker and Corbett, but are you seriously claiming there are no class divisions in the UK?

I don’t know – while I accept that ones world view matures and thus ones politics change, the Bullingdon thing does go beyond politics – the well-documented acts of contempt for ‘common people’ – destruction of property followed by thrown cash hand-outs, burning of notes in front of homeless people – indicate that at this formative time, and for whatever reason, these young men who are now running the country together were living in a moral vacuum. Maybe that has changed for them, but I would contend they were vacuum-formed. Probably explains why they are so smooth and shiny.

I am not contemptuous, as I said I am however disapproving. My initial posting of that image was indeed an emotive act. I found it while ‘researching’ (OK, Googling) the other club, the one allegedly involving the pig.. I had forgotten about it. In fact it is not the well-known image, the one with Boris and a Rothschild. The owners of that one co-incidentally withdrew all permission for it’s use anywhere when the Labour party were about to use it in their election campaign. This one escaped censorship, being hidden in plain sight on the wall of an Oxford gent’s outfitters for many years.

Having a bad day? I would appear to have touched a nerve by posting that image (which is not a figment of anyone’s imagination).

I do believe that Cameron joining the Bullingdon really does say more about him than me posting it says about me, which isn’t a great deal.

Here’s what I imagine posting it says about me. It says I feel the need for others to know how the Prime Minister and the Chancellor amused themselves together while undergraduates. It suggests I personally don’t approve of the behaviour of this club (have you looked it up?) and yes it probably says I also therefore don’t approve of the attitude that this implies or of these people now running the country. It probably also marks me as being to the left of the current political centre, and therefore beneath contempt for you.

Beyond that… nope, I am stuck. Please enlighten me.
