RE: Did I miss something?
No you didnt – it may be that certain individuals (squasher? :D) are being very decent about the whole thing and not rubbing it in…or, and this is probably more likely :-), timezones are such that theyve not hit the board yet!!!
About the game….what can you say? The sending off wasnt right but the result probably was. If we couldnt put on a more convincing display against 10 men, even in those conditions, we dont really deserve to progress. Scholes’ performance was pitiful and Keiron Dyer was, from the performance I saw, literally that….dire!.
Be interesting to see how Hargreaves develops from this and how the team looks when we can slot Steve Gerrard back into midfield. I think we have to look towards Euro ’04 with a lot of confidence from the way the teams’ played in SE Asia. We played with all the heart in the world against Argentina and with all the technical skill I’ve ever seen in an England team against Denmark and, IMO, those are the two main qualities in a succesful squad.
As an overview I dont think we had a bad tournament and we’ll take a few positive lessons away from it. Also, lets face it, losing against Brazil in the quarters’ is no real cause for hung heads. I just wish we’d made a bit more of a fight of it in the second half.
RE: Finished
Absolute bullplop! I’ve been a qualified network engineer for the last 5 years or so – I still talk utter cr@p at times. Most of my colleagues are also highly skilled, professional, engineers and I wouldn’t trust most of them to tune in my TV! 😀 }>
Congratulations anyway Dutchy! What’s your engineering discipline?
Regards,
Steve

RE: England 3 Denmark 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kabir,
Did you see Englands second half performance against Argentina?. Watch it – it answers your question completely. Unless you think Crespo, Batistuta and Ortega may not be significantly impressive defence-breakers! 🙂

RE: Argentina
I always strive to keep an objective view and value fair play highly in all things.
HOWEVER, I have to admit to being pleased to see the Argentinian team getting knocked out.
The arrogance they displayed pre-match naming theyre team days ahead because they didnt think we could do anything to win anyway!. The behaviour of theyre team in 1998 even after they only just squeaked through on penalties and of course the consistent attitude of one former wearer of the blue and white no.10 shirt all make me believe that the second round will be better without them.

RE: Belgium for world champignon
…and you know what they say about mushrooms. “kept in the dark and fed on sh$t!!!”.
Seriously anyway, a tremendous result for the Belgian lads. Doesnt this give them a second-round draw against Brazil though…ouch?!
Well…fried mushrooms can be quite tasty, I suppose!!! 😀

RE: Thanks Guys 🙂 🙂 🙂
Ja,
Have heard of these things being freighted all over the place in support of “ongoing operations” but I can only imagine it would be to places with nice, relatively, calm conditions like those you mention.
The line in the specs that states “can survive Sea State 5 conditions” sounded a bit ominous. I’ve sailed a 3 mast schooner displacing no more than 250ton, across the English Channel in November, in at least an 8 or 9 sea and, whilst it wasnt particularly pleasant, the boat was never in any danger!. These things sound a bit girly to me!
One interesting thing I read somewhere was that they’d been chopped to USCG control and armed to the gunwhales with 25mm cannon and 40mm Mk19’s for “homeland defence”. Mayhap the sealies will need some new boats to play with soon!
Cheers,
Steve

RE: Northrup-Grumman to build subs for Taiwan
Seahawk,
Are you saying that the ROCN is going to be getting Type 212/214’s!?.
These are, IMO, the best SSK on the market currently, if this is true the PLAN must be having fits!.
cheers
