I recall one of the first proper albums I listened to was Disraeli Gears belonging to one of my brothers – I used to play it endlessly on the red Dansette (I think) record player in the top floor playroom.

All the greats are slowly departing for the big gig in the sky….

Good to hear – might be an interesting episode to watch if they include all the pertinent footage!

    Bruce,
Probably my last post on the subject – not sure where I stated that breastfeeding was the exclusive reserve of the “middle” or “upper” classes. My only mention was maybe “posh noshery”? But that was solely referencing the Claridges incident which Farage had been berated for.

I think that most level headed mothers, from all “classes”, who have to breastfeed, will do so in a manner which protects their modesty and ensures that people around don’t “feel uncomfortable” with the process. And reading many replies to the news piece seems to confirm that many women also think this woman was “out of order”. There does seem to be a “hardcore” element that likes to seek out as many places to test the water (or should that be the milk) and hope to get the reaction they are hoping for, to challenge ‘convention’. I suspect the mindset is shared by the Breastapo advocates of “Breast Is Best” towards some new mothers who perhaps cannot breastfeed and are made to feel inadequate parents…

In the case of the disabled wanting easy access to buildings or other public facilities, for example, I see no problem with confronting businesses etc to ensure equal rights as the able bodied.
But I’m afraid I have little to no sympathy with a woman creating a public outcry about her “rights” then posting it all over the internet. What happened to quietly discussing the issue with the business?

Now, I’m off to the local creche cafe for a milky coffee…

    Bruce,
This latest outburst about the right to breast feed in public occurred after Claridges requested the mother to drape a ‘modesty cloth’ over her shoulder and child. Now, I can’t afford (or would want to fork out for) a pot of tea in Claridges, nor would I expect many people on my level of income to either.

FYI, Claridges Festive Afternoon tea Menu, priced at £75 per person……

As for this fuss over Farage – once again his words are twisted by the media – his use of the word “corner” has been leapt on to suggest they should be forced to sit a corner, facing the wall, with pointy hat bearing a big “B” (for Breastfeeding), rather than what I suspect he meant, which was in a part of the restaurant which offered some ‘privacy’ to the mother.

I do wonder if this is another case of the deliberate targeted militancy by groups with agendas….

Claridges does request that “To respect the privacy of all our guests, we kindly ask that you refrain from flash or intrusive photography” yet this woman gets photos taken of her “humiliation” and posts it onto Twitter? What about the people sitting in the background of the photos whose privacy has been disregarded?

So humiliating in fact, she wanted to share it with the Twittersphere!……

Once again the Breastapo are foaming at their teats and beating their lactating breasts over their “right” to whop out the bitties in full view of everyone – what happened to a little modesty in ensuring Tarquin or Jacinta get their regular meal?

Sure it is a “natural” thing, but not everyone is comfortable with having to witness it while they are perhaps partaking of adult food in a posh noshery…

What next? Changing babies nappy on the table? Oh no, that’s happened already….

Mr Farage needs to come up and experience the joys of driving on the A14!!! End to end trucks most hours of the day! And all those East Europeans going home after they’ve picked all our fruit and veg…

I too tend to give foreign registered trucks a wide berth – I’ll never try and pass one unless I am sure of clearing it, almost treating them as a moving hatched junction. They are at a disadvantage by being LHD and even with more mirrors than a Mods scooter they can still have blindspots. That’s just defensive driving though, not a dislike of foreigners…

    Brian,
I am a tad disappointed – thought it was “Beer Hunting in London”! Must get my goggles checked! 😀

Can we smuggle one up to Duxford and equip him with a camera bag and long lens DSLR? :highly_amused:

Unless you want to see your insurance increase, due to the fact you have a speeding conviction and points on your previously clean licence, I would say bite the bullet and do the speed awareness course. I know someone who was clocked doing 35 in a 30 zone and they were given the course option – while you may feel you’d be patronised they actually said the course was done very well with no such patronising.

83 mph may put you outside the speed awareness course option and you may well get the fine and points.

Talking of overtake margins it appears that trucks on the A34 are determined to set up rolling road blocks. It’s not unusual to travel up to five miles behind a pair of them and the one in the outside lane has an overtake margin of about 1mph.

The Germans have a phrase for this problem – “Elefantrennen” or “Elephant Race”

A constant problem on the A14. Even the section near Kettering, that has a 6am to 8pm restriction on anything over 7.5 tons using lane 2, seems to have drivers of HGV sat holding back traffic…

The first (new) series of Doctor Who on DVD.

Watching that shows just how awful it has become since Eccleston’s departure.

    Moggy

Jeremy Clarkson is taking over as the next Doctor…. :highly_amused:

    I do so like Clara

    Get in the queue… 😀
