As far as i know the one at cosford is relatively complete, she has engines and apparently a complete cockpit, thanks to some spares turning up some years ago and being donated to her, from what ive been told the one at duxford “222” is basically a gutted shell, no engines etc, someone correct me if im wrong 😀

    NaShO

Ps, does anyone have a detailed three view drawing/detailed techincal schematics of her, if i cant have the real thing, i feel like building a huge remote control one 😀

maybe, but, with enough time and money, nothing is impossible!, i wonder if bill gates feels like lending me a billion dollars for such an aircraft? ill write and ask, though you can never say what the future will bring! im always optimistic 😀

too right!! i wonder how much it would cost to put one of them in the air again, or at least how much to make a replica new one, i would be at every airshow that it flew at! *dreams wistfully* the one at cosford is virtually complete isn’t it with the one at duxford being basically gutted internally? or am i wrong?

i appreciate that, but the manner in which she was dismantled was criminal, no other aircraft in aviation history has been almost wiped of the face of the earth, no matter how unpromising the project seemed, TSR.2 would have been the one of the best things to have come out of BAC and the whole project was destroyed almost overnight, jigs cut with cutting torches, flight records burnt, even a wooden mockup of one was dragged out and burnt whilst engineers looked on!, all of the airframes on the production line were scrapped/ blown up ah well 🙁

well why on earth dont they power these old aircraft up once in a while? it certainly drives out corrosion and keeps out the damp! i know its probably easier said than done, but still, worth thinking about maybe? 😀

Sorry for being a retard there 🙁 lol both projects were dismantled in what can only be described as disgusting haste, and due to corruption, espionage or political shortsightedness we will never have the pleasure of seeing these aircraft fly:(

now thats pretty extreme, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this really was a derivative of an XB70, or indeed one completed from various parts. are you sure it was soviet agents?, i had heard that the labour party had been put under pressure by the amercans to have the F-111 and destroy the TSR.2, which outperformed the F-111 in every way. anyway this plan backfired in the end due to problems with the F-111 🙂

thats a good example, but at least there was a reason for this, by the time that the crash occurred though, the XB70 was already obsolete due to recent SAM technology updates. the TSR.2 was in her prime. i mean the test pilots were out at a party when the project was cancelled, they didnt know until one of the hosts returned from work late with the evening newspaper with the headline “TSR.2 cancelled”. the XB70 was a monster!!! crazy aircraft 😀

The Valiant suffered from fatigue in the mainspar. This was discovered late ’64 early ’65.
The first Victor tankers (B(K)1 2P) were ready in ’66. The B2’s were converted to K’s in the ’70’s, the first arriving in ’74.

According to my father the fault was discovered by one of his best friends, a chap called john griffin. were they really cheap and nasty? its a shame though that only one complete one survives 🙁

I understand your point entirely, but with regards, if you were a CAA surveyor, would you have no apprehension about certifying such a large and complex aircraft? she isnt any other aircraft, correct me if im wrong but won’t she be one of the largest and most complex privately owned ex military aircraft in the uk? if not the world? 🙂

She is really going to fly? someone from the CAA is actually going to come and inspect her for her certificate of airworthiness? whoever signs her off is going to have to have some b*lls, if the worst happened, whoever signed it off will get all the blame wont he/she? whoever inspects it had better sign her off, she needs to be in the air, not sat on the ground with clipped wings, Magnificent job!

If you you read the entirety of what i had written then you may understand my point, im just saying that whoever Certifies her is going to have a lot of guts as thats a massive responsibilty! and to be honest politics is just a posh ford for “lies” and id rather spend my time playing with aircraft! 😀

id love to do that. I apologise to you david is anything i have said has uspet you in the slightest, but understandibly would you not be frustrated having watched these aircraft for a number of years having thought how wonderful it would be to work on them, and at least look after them, only to have any hopes or aspirations fly away with the wind. I suppose i get easily upset about silly things! its just a shame that they are the way they are 🙁

does it not break your heart to see this happen to such wonderful things? what am i to say? I realise david that obviously these people are your friends or at least people who you know and respect. in the same instance, considering that ive just made small enquires here, how do you expect people of my generation to get interested in such aircraft, when they are left behind a fence unloved. i might as well just say why bother when all you get for trying is negative feedback! in addition to the idea of them bringing attention to marston market/ carboot do you not think that if the museum was open or at least people could go round, would maybe draw more people to it?
