Very true, but what about using tankers to satisfy the longer reach missions? Also what if the countries have a lot of airfields all over the country to cover everything and there is no need for heavier longer ranged fighters?
Yes, the Italians have a lot of weapon options, the Brazilians really dont, unless they go to Israel or wherever and get the SPIKE-ER, Spice, Lizard, Wizard, Opher, Derby and others or even Russia.
wait, whats the launch weight of the airlaunched version?
I know, in the Soviet days, if China attacked, the Soviets would first establish battlefield air superiority then they would use their superior Airforce to attack the Chinese army(would’ve been hard without PGMs), It would be some crazy CAS those Su-25s, Mig-27s, Su-17s and even Su-24s would do it too, hell even heavy bombers would be carpeting. Not only that but WARPACT countries would’ve probably helped. China SAM’s and AAA would have a lot of action thats for sure.
I would not say it’s the Mi-8/17 but rather possibly the Mi-24 but most likely the Mi-28N or the Ka-52(already ordered by Yemen).
Yes I think Italian AMX’s will also get JDAM compatibility as well as Brimstone probably(Tornadoes, M-346s will carry it). I also think Italian AMX’s carry some sort of Anti-Shipping missiles, the same ones M-346 will carry but I forget the name.
I have one question regarding the Eurofighter. IN it’s CAS role, it will use Brimstone and other weapons. Can the Brimstone be fired from a higher altitude or will the Eurofighter have to go down low to fire it?
I think Airforce and Army should be able to get the same amount of funding because Airforce development is as important and it costs much more to develop aicraft and engines than tanks and other goodies. At least 40 percent should go to Airforce/Air Defense while 35-40 to Army and the rest to Navy and other branches.
Anyone have any good info on the airlaunched version the Alfa? How does it compare to the Yakhont-M? I understand it is considerably lighter.
Yes, I think one of the underfuselage hardpoints will be easily able to accomodate a Kh-101 of a Mig-29M/SMT or Su-35/37/30MKI/30MKM, while the same can be said about Kh-SD, except the Kh-SD is as heavy as a KAB-1500 is I think(if not little heavier), so if a Mig-29SMT/M can carry 2 of those on outboard pylons I don’t think it would be a problem carrying two Kh-SDs on the outboard pylons.
So what do you guys think of attaching a large cruise missile like the Kh-SD or the Kh-101 to a Su-34 or even a Su-35/37? They would probably be able to carry 1 Kh-101 at most and possibly two Kh-SDs, but how effective is this, and is it possible? This would sure turn something like the Su-34 into a smaller and strategic bomber.
Well, considering the Kh-35 would have almost 2.5-3 times longer range, it’s not a disadvantage really.
Crobato, there are quite a few new weapons in China that are either in production, or development.
Is there a good overview of all Chinese armament?
If you call M2K and F-16 light weight than the J-10 is sure a light weight.
You guys, what do you think about hanging a large cruise missile on an aircraft like the Su-34 or even Su-35, something like the Kh-101(2400kg, 5000km) or Kh-SD(1600kg, 600km). How would this work and how effective would it be?
???
