Why the F-7MF when the FC-1 is already there? Is Chengdu trying to flood the market with light weight fighters(FC-1, J-10 and now F-7MF)?
According to Jane’s, the new WS-9 engines are at 12,000kg max thrust. Even with the Spey design, it would not be hard to squeeze out 12,000kg thrust. The Spey are making 9,000-10,000kg thrust with a 5 to 1 TWR, so it’s pretty under utilized. There are plans by the British to boost the power of the Spey before.
The new radar is the LETRI JL-10A, replacing the Type 232H of the original JH-7. We’ve seen pictures of this posted in this forum. It’s a mechanical slotted planar array around 700 to 800mm in diameter. According to some data I’ve seen on Chinese forums, it can track 15 targets and engage 6 of them. The range is about 80km lock on but it may be higher. It can support the PL-12, which LETRI also makes the seeker for. This radar was said to have been a candidate for the J-10 as well. I guess the radar used on the J-10 now (NRIET KLJ-3) probably outperforms this, but lacks the antiship capability the JL-10A has, which is why this JH-7A uses this radar. The rough equivalent to the JL-10A on the Russian side would be the Phazotron Zhemchug/Zhuk-M.
Wait isn’t BRIET KLJ-3 also known as Type 1473 or something like that?
Is the JL-10A a multirole radar?
Anyways the WS-9 is a turbojet, what significant differences will make it in the quality of this plane?
As for exporting this machine, it would be best if it came as a total package, ie in Chinese weapons. Ie SAAMs and BVRAAMs, LGBs, Cruise Missiles, other ASMs, ARMs and other goodies, so far I don’t think China has any Cruise Missiles or ARMs of their own, as they use Kh-59M and Kh-31P for their needs.
I still don’t think I would want this machine over something like multirole J-10, despite smaller range, single seat(higher workload) and other things the J-10 will be much more cost-effective.
Thats a very expensive missile, and I thought the Tomahawk was expensive at 1m each. What is going to be carrying this missile? Ships/Subs?
You guys, what do you think about hanging a large cruise missile on an aircraft like the Su-34 or even Su-35, something like the Kh-101(2400kg, 5000km) or Kh-SD(1600kg, 600km). How would this work and how effective would it be?
Well the JH-7 seems to be a decent machine, I think it’s biggest problems are the underpowered spey engines which are to be replaced soon. Crobato, any info on the new engines for the JH-7. Also what type of radar is it sopposed to use?
Yes, but I still think it would be more effective raining on an airfield with 3-4 BMs than sending whole bunch of aircraft, pilots in them and risking everything, not only that but first you have to go through enemey’s air defenses such as SAMs and other fighters.
I have a few questions
1)What is the big difference between Shahab-3 and Shahab-3B
2)What type of missiles does China have pointed at Taiwan?
3)What do you guys think a missile like the Shahab-3 would cost like/just MISSILE and excluding the launcher and other goodies?
I thought the latest upgraded Ka-27/28s could carry the Kh-35, I mean the weight of the Kh-35 is something like 600+kg, which is not much and can be carried by variety of platforms.
Can it at least disable the runaway or anything? Those hardened shelters, how much does it reallly take to take those out?
Will a rain of lets say 2-3 of those ballistic missiles be enough to take it out?
Also in wartime, those airfields can be really busy, if they are crowded with aircraft then that can really be an advantage.
Being able to stand up after sitting down for 4 hours doesn’t sound like much, but after a few hours sitting strapped in a seat… especially with a full bladder your focus can go elsewhere. Also if your leg goes to sleep you can actualy do something about it.
The Flankers are very unlikely to get inflight refueling unless they are supporting strategic aircraft. A FULLBACK is likely to get refuelling for more than half its missions and flights of 8 hours would be very possible… not necessarily for range but for loiter time over the target area.
Sitting beside someone and being able to look them in the eye when you speak to them… they can see hand signals and body language and can hear you without an intercom can be very useful when things get exciting. Equally if both crew share the workload and rest times well they will enter the combat zone ready and alert… ie no popping pills or crap like that.
Secondly having dedicated strike aircraft means the pilots will have dedicated training… multirole aircraft might lead to lots of fighter pilots and not enough strike pilots when push comes to shove. Also other variants that are not so widely publicly acknowledged like dedicated electronic jammer and recon aircraft (like the Su-24 versions) are easier. The Fullback has significantly more space to put stuff in it.
but capability and avionics wise, what advantages does the Su-34 have over other Flanker variants?
So is it worth really buying those Shahab-3B’s in any case to use them against high value targets such as airfields and etc? Can they also be loaded with different sorts of warheads?
Ok so
1)Su-34’s range is a little longer
2)The Tandem seating+bed & toilet helps on much longer missions
Some things may be irrelevant because:
1)Al-41F1 will also be used by the Su-35 so that’s not such a big advantage
2)When you hang all those weapons on the Su-34, it’s frontal RCS will not make such a big difference compared to Su-35 lets say with alot of weapons
What other advantages does it have?
However the fact that it has a toilet and the cabin is tall enough for people to stand up in, definitely helps psychologically.
Yes but it’s still not a very big advantage.
Well it is a twin seat and also has a toilet in the back, but what big advantages does it really offer over standard Flankers which can be effectively used as fighters?
The Brahmos Mobile Launcher is able to fire the Missile at ships, I understand it would be placed somewhere by the coast, can someone please describe me how would this actually work and how would this be used for Coastal Defence.
Now, another thing, regarding the Yakhont-M and Brahmos, I understand they can also be used to engage ground targets, can they be used to destroy airfields and many other targets?
How many JDAM’s does the B-1B carry?
