Sorry, old style russian hardware doesnt compare to its western couterparts. The JH-7 is twice as heavy and has twice the engine power as the Jaguar. Yet they carry equal warload, and the Jaguar has much longer range. The Su-39 has twice the engine power as the AMX and yet they carry the same warload, and the AMX has much better range and light fighter capability. Any one who thinks theyre getting away with equal performance for a cheaper price with russian junk is a sucker.

Idiot JH-7 is Chinese and not Russian, there is a difference. Su-39 actuall carries 6000kg on 10 hardpoints while AMX carries some 3800kg on 7 hardpoints I think. Su-39 not only has much better avionics it also has a radar(Kopyo-M) and has R-77, Kh-35 abilities, lets see the AMX match that. Not only that but it is significantly cheaper.

You should compare the latest Russian Su-24M/? to the Tornado or Jaguar, that is if you want to compare it to Russian.

The JH-7 seems underpowered with the Spey, but I think they said they will replace it with the WS10A, which is the same engine that is going to power J-10s and J-11s(Chinese Flankers)

If Iran or anyone else cannot surpress US Air power then really they will loose. The key to US strength is it’s air power, and once all those aircraft start chopping up Iranian Army then there is no hope for Iran to ever beat US.

The Mirage-4000 could’ve been a Rafale some 20 years earlier.

Geography is in favour of the one who flies daily for decades over the hypothetical battlefield of the Aegean and knows it better than anyone else since its his home. Not to the one has build several forward bases and bought tankers in order to overcome the “geography” disadvantage.

Training is in favour of the one who performs better on a daily basis during thousands of scrambles and interceptions, and who is not arrogant enough to
think that numbers alone can “win” anything, if training is not done to the extreme, as was the case with the M2K mid air collision during DACT 2 weeks ago. Greek pilots train the way they will fight 24/7 and not only on NATO exercises.

Equipment is in favour of the one who not only has the same assets as his oponnent, but also other assets that his oponnent does not have a clear picture about and only knows what you want to show him.

Again we have 30 years of interceptions in order to understand who is capable of what.

Very true, but thats training, Turkey is in a better position to take over Cyprus, but how well would the Cyprus national guard able to hold the Turks and how well would the Hellenic navy break through the blockade remains debatable.

Also how many F-16s and M2Ks does Greece have and how many do they plan to acquire in total.

    OMG, stealth LACM.

If thats true then it will be even tougher to spot it on a radar. Not only that but AWACS patrolling all of Taiwan 24h continously is going to be expensive and hard.

Ah, but yes, who is to say the Su-27 will not live on beyond 2015? I mean look at the F-15 in the USAF. The F-15C, in reduced numbers will be around for quite a while yet, possibly 2020 I think the figure was, and the F-15E is expected to serve for another 20-30 years at least. If the Russians are going to fund a futher FLANKER upgrade over the next few years, why would they then retire them by 2015?

I guess, but why develop an Su-27 upgrade now and not in something like 2010-2015 timeframe.

Also, since the earlier Mig-29A was expensive to maintain due to it’s low internal fuel, does that mean the Mig-29M might be 40% cheaper to maintain due to it’s 40% higher internal fuel capacity? Can someone explain to me.

The Mig-25 and Mig-31 seem to be very fuel thristy, anyone have info on their engiens as they are huge as it seems, their afterburners seem to be very wide.

How would some people compare some more modern Russian engines like Al-41F compared to the engine used by F-22/F-35?

If it is 100mn/day and they will buy some 50 Mig-29SMTs which should cost some 30mn/plane it would take them 15 days to pay off the whole deal with the stuff.

Yes but I am looking from different ways like equipment, training, geography and as it seems only the middle one is unclear and the other two both go to Turkey.

Why does the Panama Canal need to be protected and from what? If it does it leads to my next question, whats Venezuela’s role in this? and then that leads to my next question is can those Mig-29SMT’s reach Venezuela?

The big difference between the Su-30MKI and Su-35 is of course the engines where the Su-35 has better and of course non-TVC engines, teh Su-37 has TVC engines. I personally believe TVC is not that important while it will make the airplane cheaper to service by making the engines much more maintenance friendlier.

No compare the other differences, Russian vs French cockpit, Indian/Israeli vs Russian EW, radars and etc.

No, they cancelled the AMX contract a while ago.

Based on what I read on ACIG, the Venezuelan AF and Army have suffered considerably under Chavez and not only that but they do not want another fighter type, the AF wants more F-16s and thats it.

Fantasma, I would like to hear your opinion of this, and as it seems to me on paper Turkey seems a lot stronger than Greece, they got way more fighters, they got tankers, geographically it is easier for Turkey and etc.

Yes but how well would Greek Cyprus defend against the Turks on the island? The Cyprus National Guard is not too shabby either. I agree though, Turkey has an advantage over being much closer to Cyprus than Greece and not only that but they also have tankers.

BTW Sahin, excellent overview of the Turkish Airforce. How does the Hellenic Navy compare to the Turkish Navy?
