I have one more important point to make:
Soviet military equipment designed during the cold war was not designed for long life or high quality, the only design requirement was that it should be suitable for very large scale and very fast production. That is no longer Russian strategy, and today Russia has moved away from the quantity over quality approach, and is instead designing its equipment of a much higher quality and longer life. So you can’t really compare Russian equipment of today with Russian equipment from the cold war.
Yes although that has nothing to do with this whole topic. You really cannot judge Russian equipment thats 40 years old based on how it performed today/.
If they plan to use it against Iran, then it would probably be a sitting duck for Iranian Kilos. Not to mention it would take it forever to get to the Indian Ocean since the Egyptians would probably never let it pass through the Suez.
I think anyone offer us radars and such but no one has anything as close to what the Russians can offer in terms of S-400, in terms of quality, capability and COST. The closest thing non Russian that comes to the S-400 is probably PAC-2 in long range anti aircraft SAMs, yet the PAC-2 is greatly inferior.
People like GrM bitch at the bad quality of Russian equipment like Mig-29, well wtf do you expect from anything when you have 10 of them servicable, their radars are not working due to spare parts embargo or anything and you have 10 of them against 500 of NATO fighters, mass AWACS and etc.
Bo 105, H-6 Little Bird variants, Dhruv, Dauphin and my most favourite is probably EC-635. There are other ones.
Who would want to buy the MFI over the PAK-FA in the future when PAK-FA will be bought by Russia and India as well as supported by both and MFI would be supported only by MiG and not anyoen else.
I don’t think China would give up it’s J-XX for the MFI, if they wanted they would’ve done it long time ago but decided to develop it for themselves. Iran? I doubt it, their aerospace industry has taken off too and they probably will not be buying anything in the future.
please ignore SD-10, it’s pointless to argue with him
Though I don’t think the F-16blk50 can outmatch an Su-30MKI, I think the blk60(which Pakistan is probably unlikely to get) can probably stand up to it in BVR and in WVR I think anything would get eaten up against an Su-30MKI.
I think that Pakistan may upgrade it’s F-16 to MLU. However one thing is that PAF shouldn’t just worry about sending it’s F-16s against Su-30MKIs, in the future there will be hordes of LCAs, Mig-21-93s, probably Mig-29SMTs, existing M2Ks, new M2K-9s I think, Su-30Ks and others which are more than enough for a few PAF F-16s to handle.
Currently, even the Mig-21-93 would be a tough challenge for PAF’s F-16A/Bs.
Well, are the French planning to replace the Atlantique with the MMA?
I think there will be many potential customers for the MMA, including Japan unless they plan to build their own next generation Maritime and ASW Aircraft to replace the P-3, I mean the Japanese got no less than 100 P-3Cs.
I’d rather invest in the much more capable 12mn Yak-130 than the 20mn Hawk, I am sorry but it’s ridicilous.
All they need to do is develop the Yak-130 into a single seat LWF with a good radar and BVR missiles.
I think we got some parts for S-300 from Russia, I believe after the war but we never got it operational. I am not sure
But by 2015-2020, I am for refining the whole AD system and largely depend on it, SAMs are just a much better defence than modern interceptors. Though I am als ofor buying a squadron of Multirole Fighter to support our Air Defense systems. A more mobile SAM system with something like S-400, it would give NATO a headache and would cause havoc between them if they ever attacked again(which I don’t think they will but IN CASE)
Yes I agree with seahawk
MiG is very cash strapped. Maybe if the Algerian deal could bring them some funds
Yes but what does it have to do with MiG restarting develoment of Mig 1.44?
MiG has been talking about developing a 5th generation fighter. Could it just be this Mig 1.44?
I don’t know but the Mig 1.44 costs something like 70mn. I am really not exactly sure but if they can get at least one serious potential customer then it’s worth it otherwise I dont know.
By 2015-2020, when more money would be available, our whole AD could be refined.
Mig 1.44 resurrected? Who would really buy it?
