Well I think we should buy some transports. I think it would be good to haul troops for NATO and UN, like what the Ukranians are doing with their An-124s.

Buy some of those you could get an An-124 for around 40mn/plane(I know ridicilously cheap, Libyans got one for 38mn).

I we should still upgrade Mig-29s to SMT, they would be better and get 15 more, this would be just as a stop gap measure until something new arrives around 2010-2015.

perhaps a Lancer upgrade for the MiG-21s?

for new types..the MiG-29SMT and spare F-16s sound good..

but I think in Yugoslavia’s case.. money would be better spent on support and attack helicopters.

support and attack helicopter for who? for NATO? when do you think we’ll ever enter NATO especially with the blooming Kosovo crisis.

    Flex,
I think your ‘Algerian’ Su-30 is a piece of PS work. The roundel is wrong (it should have been circulair as on the MiG-29), and the typically large Algerian serial number is missing too. And the paintwork looks awfully like that of China’s MKKs.

It’s a real photo and it’s not an Algerian SU-30. A few years ago(in 2000 I think) Russia sent a Su-30 painted in Algerian colors with Algerian flag for marketing purposes.

However some news reports are saying Algeria has received SU-30MKs, either it’s true or the reporter got his info mixed up.

I’ve just read on ACIG that as soon as Syria got it’s brand new mig-23s they sent one of them against a batch of F-4s(or more) and they claim that Mig-23 shot down 2 F-4s in BVR before being shot down by other F-4s, not sure if it’s completely true but Israel claims no losses to any of their F-4s to anything it seems.

Going from any Mig-29 to any F-16 version is not a big upgrade.

We will never get AMRAAM with the F-16s so forget it, US hardware is out of question.

I would retire the Mig-21s, they are too old and past their service life, I would also get some Mig-29s like 15 more and upgrade all of them to SMT standard and there you have 20 good Mig-29SMTs, then upgrade the 30 some J-22 Oraos and there you have some 30 very good ground attack aircraft, and Oraos and mig-29s would be due to retire somewhere around 2010-2015 thats when their service life expires.

After that, buy some 30-50 PAK-FAs to replace all J-22 Oraos and Mig-29SMTs and set up a very advanced air defense system to cover all of Serbia.

With something like the latest S-300s or the S-400 any plane would be scared to cross into our airspace.

I think leasing the Gripen till 2010-2015 would be a good idea too till something else comes in, either get more and upgrade Mig-29s and upgrade Oraos or lease Gripens as a stopgap till 2010-2015 till something newer is around.

Well not so much so many planes but rather a very advanced air defense defence.

For now, upgrade the G-4s to M or whatever, upgrade the Mig-29s to SMT and get about 15 more to have around 20, upgrade the J-22 Oraos because they can be very good strike aircraft like the Jaguar, give them new avionics, radar, engines and etc.
For now this would be good, however in the future buy around 30-40 multirole aircraft to replace the Mig-29s and J-22 Oraos and then buy a very advanced air defence systems like the S-400s and anyone would be scared to get into our airspace.

Going from Mig-29A to F-16A is not an improvement rather it’s worse.

In the future Gripen will be available, Rafales and Typhoons are probably not an option because they are too expensive, Russian and Chinese PAK-FA and J-XX would be available but I doubt we’d go to them especially China, and I doubt F-35 is an option at all and I doubt US would sell it to us. We might turn to Russia or Sweden but probably Sweden.

Like i said right now upgrade 5 Mig-29s to SMT and buy 15 more from MiG, upgrade G-4s to M and upgrade J-22 Oraos.

J-22 Oraos are very good aircraft, they are very very similar to the Jaguar and F-1 I believe but they are underpowered due to weak engines, bad avionics. I’ve read reports that Serbia around 96-97 was discussing it with Israel to upgrade the Oraos with new engines, missiles, radar and avionics, it was sopposed to give it BVR and lots of new AS weapons, maybe now we could go to Israel and they’d probably be more than happy to upgrade it for us.

I am not really for getting so much aircraft in numbers, they would be shot down easily by NATO if we ever went to war thats why we need them to project some power in another airspace and back up our air defence system.

    795mn pounds=1.455bn USD.

I don’t know but 20mn for each Hawk is VERY overpriced, it’s ridicilous, I’d rather get the 10-12mn Yak-130 which is a lot more capable.

they should’ve stuck with AH-6 Little Birds for anti tank roles rather than those Apaches.

Hmm if US opens up Pakistan will be sure to be getting more F-16s and upgrading their current ones but I am not so sure US will open up at the end of the day. Besides F-16s would be many other things like AWACS and helicopters.

Besides I think Pakistan deserves this for it’s help in the fight against terrorism with US.

And how exactly is the Tomcat a legend?

Trying to even equate it with the likes of the F4U Corsair is ridiculous.

The F-14 is a great plane, but I’m so sick of hearing about it I could puke.

It hasn’t done anything just amazing.

In U.S. service it never even performed its primary mission, aside from a few encounters with Libyan fighters and various uneventful CAP’s over Iraq and Bosnia.

It’s seen more work as a mud-mover than a fleet defense fighter in USN service.

In Iranian hands it performed well, but only in one conflict, the Iran-Iraq war.

I can think of a ton of jet fighters currently in service that deserve more acclaim than the Tomcat.

Where would that plane be without the movie Top Gun anyway?

Lack of opportunity, you also must remember Tomcat was designed to intercept Soviet Maritime Bombers.

Tomcat didn’t have even close as much chance as F-15 or F-16 in USAF or other countries but however in Iran it owned. It owned any Mig-23 or F.1 that came on it, too bad US had to pull out all the maintenance technicians and the Iranians had trouble running them.

Dumbass why would you kille the JSF/F-35? USAF needs that more than the F-22 and many countries out there to replace the F-16.

I agree DoD has made some bad decisions

1)Not many Raptors are needed, F-35 can cover for it and eliminate any aerial threats out there, ie more advanced Flankers and Eurocanards
2)F-18E/F, a mediocore fighter, slow and heavy it cannot defend the fleet very well and is not really that great and costs way too much, a more upgraded F-14 would’ve done a much better job
3)V-22, yes it’s advanced but it only holds very few significant advantages against it’s competitors. It’s been in testing for a long time now, it’s crashed quite a few times, it costs 35mn and can transport barely 17Marines yet it’s competitors do much better
4)Commanche-glad it was cancelled, who needs a stealth helicopter to fight terrorist and etc
