I think they should extend it’s fuselage to accomodate more fuel and two more internal bays with 2 more hardpoints inside, it will be much better although it will be less manouverable but it is still stealthy.

Raptor already gave US unmatched technology and is not needed in those large numbers.

I would not cancel the Raptor but I would not get it in large numbers either, I would get around 100, develop the FB-22 to replace the F-15E and buy all the JSFs, I mean I wouldn’t mind if they really cancelled it because F-35 will be able to handle anything currently thrown at it in A2A including any of the latest Flankers and Eurocanards and PAK-FA in the future might not be as stealthy as F-35.

The F-35 with it’s stealth will be able to take down any Flanker or Eurocanard in the future, so what is F-22 needed for? Just so it’s there to show everyone really

I would extend F-35’s fuselage and give it more fuel for a much bigger range.

F-111 is a light bomber and it’s range and payload are only smaller than this but F-111 is outdated and IS a light bomber.

These bombers are not heavies like the Backfires or the Blackjacks/Lancers

yes but the fuselage looks really small I don’t know how you’re going to pack humongous internal bays and lots of fuel.

Man! Do I have to spell out everything?

    There are two possibilities:
    # LOCAL ATTACK: If a lesser country damages or destroys one or two satellites with an ASAT or a laser or something – don’t care where he got that stuff from – then those assets of that individual country will be targeted. But so called “Contingency War Plans” are secret of course, so I can’t tell you exactly what would happen. How it would affect strategy? Not at all. What you mean is, how would it affect operations. Things might go a bit slower, but that’s it. To increase the survivability of satellites – military and commerical – against attacks is currently one the big issues in space related R&D in the U.S.
    # MAJOR ATTACK: Attack on U.S. strategic assets on a large scale. Only a major power could do that. And no major power would mess with Uncle Sam unless they are serious about it and want to destroy the U.S. That would mean (all out) nuclear war. Ok?

Man you DO NOT get it, I didn’t ask how US would react to it etc but what it would effect!!!

Hmmm so that would kind of shut them blin ehh?

Also besides all their GPS systems would be shut down what other things would be effected like what sort of important weapons and other equipment would be effected?

Also what kind of Anti Satellite missiles does the mig-31 carry and what other ways did the SU have to destroy American satellites out of orbit?

I don’t care how they treat it if destroyed but you still didn’t answer my questions.

I know most of you are for the F-22, but I don’t see why can’t the F-35 do a similar job, what air superiority will be in there in the future to achieve? Over Indian and Chinese Flankers? Over the Eurocanards? Over the future Russian PAK-FA? The F-35 should be able to handle the Flankers and the Eurocanards in Air to Air battles, not sure about the PAK-FA. I don’t see much need for so many Raptors, or Raptors in general.
