Its the first time in history that the entire Boeing commercial family has been lined up in one place at the same time

Huh? Maybe you aren’t aware Boeing built such fine airplanes as the 307 Stratoliner or the 377 Stratocruiser??? :dev2:

Seriously, if they could have gotten rid of the McDonnell Douglas orphan (aka MD-95) – or at least hidden it at the back – and put a 720 in its place, it MIGHT have been a nice line-up of all the Boeing commercial JETS.

Based on reports elsewhere, sounds like the Tinkers have changed their interests and are now looking at Air Berlin rather than Aer Lingus!

Personally I think that Ryanair are a cancer that is dangerously infesting the airline industry, and I’d be only too pleased to see the Eejit blocked on this potential new takeover too.

Former Delta 767 (-200s) being converted to freighters for ABX/DHL by Bedek in Israel almost always tech stop in Brussels post-conversion on their way back to the USA. They are stripped prior to conversion but only painted once back in the USA.

Dunno what you’re smoking if you think the CRJ is the best regional jet, at least from a passenger perspective.

As a passenger, in the 50 seat market I’d ALWAYS prefer a EMB145 over a CRJ – the 1+2 seating is much more agreeable than the 2+2 in the CRJ100/200. In the 70+ seat market, again I’d ALWAYS take an E-Jet (170/190) over a CRJ700/900 if I had a choice as the Embraers are far more spacious feeling. The CRJ also has too low windows and is far noiser than the Brasilian contender.

The arrogance of people who use electronic equipment during take off and landing (including obviously some above who admit to doing so) amazes me.

So they know better than the airline, or the regulatory body, do they? Yeah right!

Whether or not we believe mobile phones, or cameras, or whatever, cause interferance with aircraft systems, until the case is absolutely proven that they don’t it seems entirely reasonable from a flight safety point of view to prohibit their use. How dare anyone make assumptions or operate on the basis of thinking they know better, and thus potentially compromise flight safety and risk my life.

PS: On one BMI IAD-MAN flight, I did ask if I could use a camera during take off – note I asked, rather than assumed. Purser said “no problem, but put the strap round your neck to reduce the risk of it becoming a projectile if we have to stop in a hurry”

PPS: It is bizarre that in the good old days when I used to ride the flight deck jump seat a lot, no flight deck crew ever had an issue with me taking pics with my “electronic” camera on final approach!

    S*d the photographer.
Its the crew I am worried about!

That’s what I meant in my flippant way – I understand that there were only minor injuries to those on board, despite the A/C ending up on its back.

Just my way of trying to make light of something that quite upset me – never seen an aircraft accident in 30 years of being around aeroplanes, and it really made me not want to fly today – fortunately the weather put paid to that anyway.

I think Yorkshire folks should stick to Whitby rather than getting all adventurous with their travels. Besides, if an airline started a service from Leeds to Newark I suspect most folks round the region would wonder why they’d want to fly to Nottinghamshire! :p

Try this site for some US airports – I think most of them have a slight time lag though:

    http://www.passur.com/sites.htm

I believe you click on the aircraft to see the flight details, although not all data appears to be populated for all flights/airportd

I don’t think there’s many in Europe – I believe East Midlands was the first in the UK (although it is 24 hours delayed):

    http://ema.webtrak-lochard.com/index2.html

On the EMA version you can hover the mouse over an aeroplane to see the flight details, or click on an aeroplane to get the registration, etc.

I might travel BA if they did the same thing from the UK – an all premium service would avoid having to mix with the proles! :diablo: :dev2: :p 😉 😀

The shop on the observation deck at BHX is now run by AirTrans (who run long-established EMA enthusiasts shop) rather than by [cough, cough] Ian Allan!

Scheduled block times (that is, doors-closed to doors-open, or wheels-turning-at-pushback to wheels-stopped, depending on airline) varies between around 1:05 and 1:25 depending on the time of day – most airlines pad their schedules to take account of likely ATC delays (which could be pre-takeoff ground holds or airborne holds), whilst still allowing them to appear to deliver an on-time arrival even if they are subject to holding. Actual airborne/in-flight time can be anything from around 0:35 and up, again depending on ATC holds and routings.

Nothing except for the fact that its outside is unusual – as has already been said, its done all over the world on a very regular basis inside hangArs during maintenance checks. To do gear swings, the a/c has to be raised quite a bit to get the weight off the extended olios and to allow the main gear bogies to hang in their normal unloaded position.

I have seen this done for real (albeit in a hangar) several times and the raised a/c is very stable – the most tricky part of the exercise is raising and lowering the a/c in a precisely horizontal state to ensure it doesn’t slip of the jacks due to being lop-sided – the DC-9s I saw it done on had a plumbline inside the nose gear bay which was watched by one of the engineers as the a/c was raised to ensure the a/c remained level, but a very a/c like a 777 maybe has something a little more sophisticated.

Excellent news… MaxJet is the right combination of “fair” price and better-than-economy seating and service as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been to LA several times a year recently and I’ll certainly look at MaxJet next time I’m going there (too late announcement for my next trip though, which is booked on UA).

If the other airlines were so insignificant and not a threat, he wouldn’t even both about them. The very fact that the Irish eejit airline CEO feels the need to paint those sayings on the side of his aeroplanes indicates that they must be at least an irritant to him.
