With any luck he’ll do the same as Blair might do and step down BEFORE he originally plans to. Commercial aviation will be better off the day that guy leaves the industry.

A “lie” is a deliberate deception. Although you can reasonably doubt his ability to deliver anything credible from this endevour, based on the evidence to date, you cannot prove that it was / is his intent to deliberately decieve people about his intentions viz AlphaOne.

Anyone who says he is going to fly for an airline WITHOUT an ATPL and WITHOUT an instrument rating, and will continue his training to gain these qualifications in between flying for the airline, is either totally niave (far too niave in fact for someone who’s already invested much in getting a CPL and would thus need to understand the rules surrounding various professional licences and the limitations on them to pass the exams), or is doing only one other thing…

Airlines select diversion airport (planned on flightplan as already mentioned) based on a number of criteria, including:

    * Distance (and thus fuel required) from planned destination – can be an important consideration when destination is close to fuel limits for a/c
    * Locally based staff / base at diversion airport – can help with ground handling, line maintenance and arranging replacement crews (this is why yesterday some LPL EZY’s went to EMA, for example)
    * Diversion contracts/deals with specific airports
    * Ability to handle aircraft and pax – e.g. no point in diverting a full 747-400 to somewhere like Norwich, which might not even have steps tall enough to reach the pax doors
    * Operational considerations on the day (e.g. which diversion airports are likely to be open and not also fogged in, capacity at diversion airports both in terminal, aircraft parking and handling, sometimes even coaching for pax – EMA was starting to turn away diversions last night, etc due ramp space limitations)

    Jetphotos – nasty business! 🙁

Dreadful because of the pop-ups, but I wouldn’t give Chris Kilroy the time of day anyway.

Huh? Who’s eating humble pie? As yet, AlphaOne have dismally failed to deliver on any promise or commitment they’ve made, and its still several weeks away from when they do if we even believe that they will meet the promises they’re currently making.

Sorry to disappoint you cloud_9, bmused56 (strange user name that!), Pembo330, and any other “spotters, artists and wanabees who comprise AlphaOne’s only supporters” (PPRuNe quote I think) but there’s still a long way to go to convince some of us that AlphaOne is anything other than a grand scam.

I think the bmi Baby was from EMA, and the Monarch BLK.

Blackpool was out (EMA got their FR DUB), so that’s probably correct regarding the Monarch. EMA lost a WW to LBA first thing, but as EMA opened mid-morning it probably went back home.

EMA is just now taking Air Aaron from BHX as well as the rest, and earlier got an Air Canada 767 (not a divert as it was planned HEL-EMA, except it diverted from EMA to LHR and then came back when EMA opened) with American wrestlers on board.

EMA currently taking quite a lot from BHX (BRT, BEE, Ryanair, Eastern, etc), and even some from LPL (EZY) and MAN (DragonAir Cargo).

MAN currently RVR 200/200 meters, BHX currently RVR 200/225 meters, LPL currently RVR 150 meters, Leeds currently CAVOK, EMA currently 6000 meters.

Leeds currently forecast to drop to 4000 meters by 20:00, then to 200 meters temporarily after 22:00. EMA forecast to drop to 200 meters for temporary periods after 18:00.

    cloud_9,

I think its a great idea, BUT…. (didn’t you just know there would be a BUT)…

Its probably too late to start work on a 2006 calendar now, certainly its too late if you want to sell any commercially or do anything other than sell/give away a few to friends. As an indication, another aviation photography business/website I’m involved in has just received a major order for images for a 2007 calendar. OK, so some calendars work to shorter deadlines than that, but we researched the idea a year or so back and found that even September was too late and that typically calendars that are going to be sold in any sort of numbers have to be sorted and into print (if not actually on the market) by August at the latest – by Christmas, which is less than five weeks away, most folks have acquired whatever calendars they really need and the market reverts to discounted selling to get rid of excess stock.

If on the other hand your idea is just to have someone like PhotoBox make up a few calendars and either give them away or sell them to a friends, then 2006 is probably still achievable (but even with that, you need to get a move on as the new year is only just six weeks away and by Christmas typically everyone has calendars).

Anyone up for a Zurich daytrip? 😉

If I remember correctly, the airside tour is called “Rundfarhten” (or something like that – Swiss German you know!), and it used to cost something like SFR5 for about a 45 minute tour including a drive round the hangars, the terminal ramps and time at the infamous bus stop. The only place you get off the bus is at the runway intersection as seen in the photo. The tours run much more regularly at the weekend (they might not even run every day in the week???), although demand is also higher at weekend when you may have to wait an hour or two to get on a tour. Tours ran from the viewing deck. Commentry is provided, albeit in Swiss-German – “hier ist ein emm-dee-elf”

The best trick at the runway intersection was to hope that a second bus showed up whilst you were out there – again, much more likely at weekend. Then, leaving the crowd from the original bus and merging into people from the other bus load allowed for a longer stay by the runway. I managed to stay out there for over an hour one time as successive busses came along, but sadly in the end one bus driver wised up to what I was doing and insisted I got onto his bus 🙁

The photo is of the bus stop on the airside tour at Zurich. The bus usually stays there for 10-15 minutes before the tour moves on. No one is allowed to stand out there except whilst the bus is there, and what you see whilst the bus is stopped out there depends very much on the luck of the draw and good timing.

PS: It is in fact not much closer than the southside paths at MAN

    Kingfisher (India) ordered 20 ATR-72 500s and 30 Airbus A320 family a/c

The Chinese 737 order has been confirmed as 70 firm (mixture of -700s and -800s) with plans to confirm orders for 80 more soon – this isn’t strictly a Dubai order as it was confirmed during GWB’s visit to China

National Air Services (Saudi Arabia) has ordered 10 A318CJs, launching the corporate version of the smallest Airbus

What was the Southwest one with the weird looking livery. I know they paint some of their aircraft with the state flag liveries, but don’t recognise that one!

    Its N214WN, aka “Maryland One”

Vegas (an absolutely fantastic place) – can’t belive my visit was over a year ago now, would love to go back there!

Were you at that small spotting area on Sunset Boulevard is it? to the left of runways 25L & R?

Yes, LV is one of my favourite places too, and yes the viewing area on Sunset was where all the photos were taken from.

Cross posting, but there was an airshow at Nellis (just north of LAS) and the first photos are also on the site for military fans:

PS: Note that the Southwest 737 “Maryland One” has no eye-brow windows above the flightdeck – makes it look slightly “frowning” IMHO
