But AFAIK, there aren’t any Carvair’s in operation.
OK, after the Corfu debacle, lets straighten this one out too!
To the best of my knowledge, Roger Brooks’ Carvair isn’t currently flying but its airworthy. However, even though the Fairbanks based Carvair may not be flying now, the compaany expects to fly it on a fairly regular basis in future – they bought it a year or two ago and have been tidying it up since.
There is one Carvair flying very regularly at present – N89FA is actually based at Sherman/Grayson County in Texas, but has recently been active out of the infamous Detroit Willow Run airport. Another airworthy Carvair, 9J-PAA, is based at Johannesburg Rand and although I believe it hasn’t flown for a while Phoebus Apollo are planning to restore it to flight status any time now.

I think its genuine… Its very rare they use that end at CFU, but when they do they’re LOW. The fence, left, is lower across the threshold.
Andy
My understanding is that they have already received 10 times as many requests as they will have seats and that they are talking about drawing lots (of course VIPs and other invitees will occupy many of the seats anyway).
Andy
Interesting… Shame about the weather though!
Where I am this week, at Orange County Airport, Wednesday lunchtime was clear blue skies, temperature in the 90s 🙂 Sadly I too am working, with the 20D in the bag and a shutter finger itching to be used!

They just haven’t got a clue. Its sad to see what BMI have become. Just as the likes of Swiss put BACK inclusive catering because they’re realised that payed-catering doesn’t work for a “business” airline, so BMI do the opposite – snatch defeat from what could have been a victory. I predicted some time ago that the new model would be that they were effectively seeking to become “the low fares airline at LHR” and that’s just what they are aiming for. Shame. They had a single cabin before – it was called Diamond Service, it included full meals – and it was excellent and it was what differentiated British Midland from the rest and that SERVICE was what helped make them what they became. Now they look for the lowest common denominator. They may pick up some punters in the really cheap seats at the back, but they’re also saying that they’re keeping flexible economy fares – sorry, but why should I pay the same for less?
So, business class and full / high economy fare payers to BA or other European airlines, really cheap fares still lower on Easy and or Ryan, and bmi left to pick up a few dregs in the middle. This will take them down, not up.

So, its a done deal, with the name US Airways surviving. I wonder if they’ll stay in Star? Notice also they are to be the launch customer for the A350!!!

Believe it or not ,but a Concorde was barrel rolled .
Despite what has been claimed about this here and elsewhere in the past, I believe this to be an urban myth – there was certainly no more need to barrel roll Concorde during certification than there is with any other airliner. Of course, if anyone can prove the assertion that it did barrel roll by supplying a photo, I’d be very pleased to amend my thinking.

Canadair make it though…. or have I missed something.
Yes you have missed something! They company that makes them has been called Bombardier for quite some time now (in fact, the designation is BD-700 indicating a Bombardier design)! :p
Andy
ATPs are dreadful aeroplanes – take it from one who has done 97 passenger flights on the type and who has no desire to go on one again! Good luck with your trip – hope it doesn’t go tech!

And Jet2 is the trading name of Channel Express’ Pax division, so 😉 right back at ya :p
Indeed, and I alluded to that effectively. However, the press release doesn’t specify Jet2 and that leaves the door open for them to be converted to SFs and operated by ChanEx, even if the rumour machine says they’re going to Jet2.
Andy
In a statement, the company said the aircraft will be used to further expand the operations of Channel Express (Air Services) Ltd.
All this talk of Jet2 757s! Serve you all right if they convert them to special freighers – it actually does say for Channel Express…! 😉
(OK OK, I know, CEAS is parent of Jet2, but non the less…)
Andy
ok…..an International Aero Engine powered A321, which is a joint venture between Rolls Royce,Pratt and Whitney and MTU, i just neglected to mention the other 2 companys ;o)
Yes IAEs or CFMs on 321s, and I bet you won’t see an “RR” badge on the side of either! 😮 :p
