I believe the 1st international route out of LHR for them was Amsterdam in 1986 (can’t find any notes about that route in my 1985 reference book)
Nope… If we’re talking LHR, BMA operated LHR-Stragburg on the Viscount many years before that. When it came to starting the trunk international routes from LHR, at the time there was a rule in place that prohibited airlines from opening NEW INTERNATIONAL routes from LHR unless they already had international operations from the airport. BMA used the fact that they’d operated the route to Strasburg to get around the rule and launch services to AMS.
British Midland Airways (as was) operated 707’s back in the 70’s and 80’s on long haul routes including JFK
Charters rather than scheduled services though.
First international scheduled service by Derby Aviation/Airways, the precursor to today’s bmi, was Burnaston to Ostend (via Birmingham for customs) started in 1954 and operated by Rapides.

How does that Aeroclassics VC-10 hold up in the light of day ? From pictures I’ve seen of it, it looks a bit naff ?
LOL! 😀 Didn’t take YOU long to notice that one, did it?
Its fine… OK, so it doesn’t have quite the finesse of todays releases, but its got a few things going for it – firstly, it LOOKS very much like a VC10, and secondly IMHO the AC VC-10s lack a lot of the clunkiness evident in the other early ACs (DC-9s, DC-6s included). I know I wouldn’t want to be without them – if only I could get the Gulf Air to complete the set!

A few recent new arrivals (ANA TriStars), plus one or two gotten out of their boxes for the first time in ages… Welcome to Tokyo!!!
Andy
OK, so maybe I’m trying to apply too much logic to the situation – all I want is to get a pic of it (if its had any sort of paint job done on it!).
Andy
Nice pics Grey…
I thought about it, bbut I’m glad I didn’t go…
Its always best when there using 33
I don’t like BHX when they’re using 33 – especially not in the afternoon. Far more photo ops for 15 IMHO, if you’re prepared to work a bit for them!

Oh, and if anyone thinks they have a reliable forecast, let me know! Seems impossible these days…
18hr TAF for LHR only goes to 1200GMT (1300Local) right now…
EGLL 071030Z 071812 30015G25KT 9999 SCT040 PROB30 TEMPO 1819 7000 SHRA SCT030CB BECMG 1821 29012KT PROB30 TEMPO 1012 30015G25KT 7000 SHRA
Basically, nice but quite windy, chance of some rain showers towards lunch time.
Andy
Shame… The colours on the Electra I linked to were much more eligant.
Andy
for some reason regarded your comment as a snipe at me
I didn’t intend it as a snipe at all – I did say “nice”, and I merely wanted to point out that the livery you chose to reproduce on the Fk.50 wasn’t the one the new Ansett were saying they were going to use.
Andy
2nd BHX service was advertised on local TV last night – double daily from June (except for August), it said.

Where did Sandy’s picture go???
Where did Sandy’s picture go???
Sandy,
Nice, but not the right colours. If you read the article, they’re gonna use the old red/black/white colours from the ’60s.
Presumably, either http://www.airliners.net/open.file/168118/L/ (how cool will that be??? 🙂 ) or http://www.airliners.net/open.file/168114/L/

So you don’t want a new car? Alright, what if I was to chuck in a bevy of dancing girls, three more new cars in case the other one gets dusty or dirty, enough spare wheels to last you a lifetime, some Cuban cigars, a lifetime’s supply of beer, and not actually want any money for the new car at all?
Dammit, now you’re making it sound like Boeing’s attempt to sell 767s to the US Air Force for tankers! 😀 :diablo:
