More than half of Indian Mig 21s are upgraded to the Bison standard featuring advanced radar jamming and BVR capability with the R77. Against that the Mirage F1 has very little chance of survival.

Today is the Keel Laying of the FIRT IAC. I really hope no further demands of increase in price of Vikramaditya is met and the current Viraat is given a good refit. The harriers onboard it are all upgraded with Elta Radars 🙂 and Israeli missiles.
That’s the whole point of the exercise…..what western aircraft does India produce at home??…what is the most successful IAF aircraft in service?
We produced the Jaguar at home and no doubts Su 30 is the best aircraft in our inventory now, but if you mean successful as in effective the Mirage 2000 really was awesome in the Kargil war with its high avilability rates and versatility.
Like I wrote previously, I doubt the carrier project will be canceled….IF that happens we can talk about it.
I pray it is if you ask for more money.
Next time there’s a vacancy for India’s defence minister you should put your hand up…..I’m sure that you’ll quickly turn India into the Raj once again
I guess it was easy as that. You think buying western weapons makes you part of the Raj ? India has been using British weapons for so long with little or no problems. Compare the Vikramaditya Saga with the procurement and operation of INS Vikrant and INS Viraat both former British carriers 🙂
Soviet Union was a great friend, a great ally an all weather friend who would give us state of the art tech before even before the warsawpact got it. Times have changed now and Russia is not the Soviet Union, the sooner we recognize it the better it is for us.
:diablo: Secretly Wishing for the Soviet Union to rise from its ashes…
I would argue otherwise that America’s edge in Armed forces will continue till she has the highest defense budget. Look at the time when Soviets spent much more, the Russians were much closer to Americans in capability than they are now.

Then why are they just signed a new contract to supply another 100 new engines for J-10s?
Am talking about Americans not Russians

It’s getting tiring reading the constant whining of the pro US Indian supporters. This latest episode about a price hike is most likely misreporting by an Indian paper about the ongoing negotiations. I haven’t come across any other source mentioning a new price hike on top of the already mentioned one.
Yes this whole deal is a mess and it’s the Russians fault for underestimating the cost and various project management issues. On the other side of the coin, the Indians are trying to get (rhetorically speaking) “something for nothing”. There were delays of payments from the Indian side which also contributed to further delays.
The Vikramaditya is shambles mostly because of the Russian price hike and inability to deliver the project on time. Saying that we have only ourselves to blame for choosing a country with a poor record in carrier building instead of some European shipyard. Like you i really hope we cancel the project alltogether.
India is going to get the Jaguar fleet new and powerful engines. Honeywell is the likely supplier :). I also think we are going for an Israeli radar.

I really doubt that it would come down much. But if we can maintain our growth rate, I think in two decades that won’t be much of a problem :).
Its like a long waiting line for the F 35 and looks like the unit cost is going to be huge. I really do not see it being considered by IN for atleast a decade and a half.
Looking at that deck i really think the Super Hornet/Rafale M can take off from that without Catapults.
