Why did the Luftwaffe retire their Mig 29s so fast. Could they not modify it to work with NATO ? I think the Slovaks did something like that to theirs.
Hehe, everytime I see that pic it makes me wonder what number 10 and 12 are… all the others correspond to a real aircraft I can identify.
Please try to identify the others. Its fun ! π
So true, I trully wish the MRCA evaluation and selection had no political and cost ties attached, and the aircraft to be numbered 1 to 6 as per their capability after evaluation.
π I will have 9 it looks a bit like the prowler.
No and I think the whole Joint Development thing between Russia and India absurd. The aircraft is past its design stage and there is very less to be gained.
It would serve India better to develop a fifth gen fighter on its own with assistance from European/Israeli firms.
I know but still less than the Rafale, Gripen and EF. which took 8 – 9 years.

They were doing much better than the west till the fall of U.S.S.R
I don’t know what to believe anymore π
The Gripen won’t be coming to Aero India 2009. That makes it two of them.

As for the Mig 29. I am glad we are upgrading ours, the first five is already sent to Russia. Extending service life to 40 years π
THE P2E HIS DEAD…
Read what you have posted.
I have and it does not say the P2E is dead. What it does say however is that it is likely to be changed with another process which would speed it up.
Was that process accepted ?
It all comes down to lack of cash, if you look at soviet aircraft the design and induction were rapid.
Sintra,
The link i gave you was also credible, so its your credible source against mine.
nd NO, the ferking P2E itΒ΄s not directly connected with an AESA antena on the Phoon,
It says it is on the article I posted above, again from dti Jan 2009 issue, same author as the first one. Are you saying the source is no longer reliable ?
The first thing you notice on that page is the wiki warning.

Ideally it is intended for countries looking for a MLU, countries who are ready to spend. The RUAF can be a good customer themselves, also the Radar can be integrated to other aircraft in the Russian inventory.
For example theIndian upgrades for its MIg 29 includes change of radar, avionics, cockpit displays, Hud, Canopy, HMS, etc. π
Your PC example is rather poor I must say. The Zhuk AE in MIG 29 would be like fitting a new processor (along with new board and memmory if required) into an old ATX cabinet.
And By the way on EF. The Radar is not due till the P2E package in 2014, 2 years after the MRCA timeline. The same applies with the storm shadow cruise missile and meteor.

2.) The Zhuk-AE would require major upgrades to the aircraft’s avionics and maybe even the airframe. It’s probabley not worth the effort and it remains yet to be seen if RAC MiG can sell any further new built aircraft to anyone.
Any links to backup this claim.
In a similar situation with the F 16. There is a news in the aviation thread that the approval of sales of the AESA radars may see a lot of F 16 customers seeking MLUs with the APG 80.
Not optimistic for the Indians, the Russians obviously give themselves full priority, hense the half-decade earlier delivery time.
Hence the MCA. π
Well if they need our money they better make us a good plane with FGFA. π
