And all I could think of was a paper plane on a bit of string at a Pink Floyd concert!!!
🙁
Sorry, I’m a bit confused.
I always thought a Turbo Prop, in it’s simplest description, was a jet engine powered propeller. The jet efflux driving a turbine, which in turn drives a gearbox, that then turns a propeller.

Have I missed something?
I’d keep it if I were you. If you’ve upgraded to a dSLR you might still find it useful.
PS/ Have you seen the new bridge camera from Olympus – the SP-550 UZ? 18x Optical Zoom – 2.5″ LCD panel – upto ISO 5000. Takes a TCON 1.7 (which you might have – it’s a favourite among Fuji bridge owners). Digital Camera give it 5 stars and Editors Choice award. They’re giving it a street price of £349, which looks very competitive in this market.
No date has been set yet Rob, but i will endever to notify people when the opportunity does arrive. Our primary limiting factor as to her departure is as always the great British weather. It is likely that she will depart at a moments notice should the weather be good.:)
Thanks.
Hi,
I was posted to Finningley in 1973 or maybe it was ’74. I’m sure it was ’73 though. Did you get any photos in either year?
I was guarding a Lightning.
Rather shamefully, the evening before, I accidentally spilled plastic polish on the wing of the ME 262 (polishing the canopy). I wanted to clean it up, and said so, but there wasn’t enough time and the NCO IC wanted his tea!
The nightmare haunts me to this day. 🙁
Its not as bad as it could be Papa Lima but thats only because of the work of Liberty. This group provides a solid base which fights to maintain civil liberties. Many of its members work in the legal world and dislike clumsy law making plus the misuse of laws.
I have seen public awareness of threats to civil rights increase in recent years and no Uk government will get away with attempts to change the law by strealthy trickery.
It’s complete rubbish.
The Government have not indicated any such plan whatsoever.
It’s got something to do with a private club and their members only – and clearly they don’t have the power to affect the general public.
I have been been inundated with requests for details regarding the petition I have started at the Number 10 e-petition site. Linked here – http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Photography/. I have NOT said that a bill is in preparation, or that legislation is being prepared, but am referring to the ID cards proposed by various bodies which will serve to create an ‘uber class’ of photographer, and restrict the use of cameras by normal citizens. These cards will only further the suspicion and misunderstandings that many photographers already suffer.
The above quote is direct from the petitioners website. He would be better petitioning the clubs concerned.
He says “bodies”, but they’re not public bodies, merely some private institutions without any public remit whatsover.
You might need a magnifying glass to read some of the small print (I can’t be bothered myself), even at 640×480 on a 21″ screen.
I chuckled at the suggestion that everyone with a camera should carry this as a laminated card: –
You are reminded that under UK law, there are no restrictions on taking photographs in a public place or on photography of individuals, whether they are adults or minors. There is no right to privacy in a public place, although photographers are of course subject to the usual libel laws in the same way as any other citizen and should observe them. Equipment or film may not be confiscated, or images deleted by any person or officer unless a warrant for such action is issued. Any attempt without a warrant is considered assault under UK law.
But, of course, it’s entirely accurate.

As I am given to understand Damien, she will be unveilled for a gathering of press, anoraks and public etc. Before the end of march she will be flown out inorder to create space as she is just so damm big and there are other projects that require the space. She has to be flown out by the end of march as the insurance paid for by Red Bull runs out at that date, and apparently there is no way in hell she will be left out in the elements, with space being such a premium it seems the most sensible option. But without sponsership where she flies to, will be where she stays, until someone comes up with the cash to pay the insurance.
Has a date been fixed for this opportunity. If not, what chance is there of being notified in advance to be either there, or at Yeovilton when she arrives?
Great pictures.
Those F111’s – I always feel like I want to pull it backwards, let it go – and watch it zoom along the kitchen floor – like a clockwork toy. Must be something to do with the undercarriage layout.
😀 😀
Actually, judging by late last year’s problem with an Aussie F111, and the pilots exceptional skill in getting it down safely – I wonder if they need undercarriages at all!!!
Or simply use the organisation features in good old Windows XPSP2. I find most of these add on tools don’t organise, so much as disorganise.
My Computer & Explorer work perfectly well enough for me.
Mmm, you ever worked offshore before? Weight and size are a large consideration… Add to the fact you are usually at work, so have the camera in one of your coverall pocket!:)
Or compact. 😀
To be honest, I do not have a lot of experience shooting aircraft, but I used to take plenty of photos at sea on ships and rigs, and the movement on them used to mean I had to take every means available to steady before I shot a picture. A tripod or monopod makes all the difference, and can assist in your panning effects
But surely, some kind of damping system would be better than a tri/monopod on a moving platform, such as a ship at sea. Something like the system professional movie makers use to hold the camera while they are walking/running, etc. Not cheap, I know.
Ah but the cognoscenti amongst us are watching The Secret War of Jackie’s Girls on Ch 5
Moggy
Are you sure about that Moggy????
Get your “choppers” out guys, there’s gals on the box.
Think I’ll keep mine in it’s big red bag!

If you still haven’t made your mind up, whatever you do, don’t buy a stock factory fresh Fuji.
To replace my bust S5600 I ordered a refurbished S6500fd direct from Fuji, and :
1. It arrived next day
2. It is absolutely pristine
3. It easily outperforms any camera I have every used in the past, including my Minolta film SLR.
The autofocus is absolutely bang on. It is practically noise free – I took a few pictures at full 10.7x optical and 2x digital – what’s that 21.4x – and even those are as good as anything my S5600 ever took. I must say I’m more than pleased with it.
I’m going to Yeovilton tomorrow, and no doubt I’ll get some aviation related pics there, however I took this (I’m sorry it’s not a plane, but it only arrived today) today, only a couple of hours after I got it in my sweaty paws.
Click Here. It’s not aviation based (it’s a tug actually), so I wont defile the forum with the image.
I’ve ordered an S6500fd (refurbished) direct from Fuji to replace my S5600. With it’s manual focus and zoom rings, it should be easier to operate, while offering some minor improvements. It has a 2.5″ screen and 6.something megapixels.
The downside is that my teleconverter won’t fit – I’ll need a step down ring, if I’m to use it. But it might be an excuse to get a better quality teleconverter sometime in the future anyway.
