Lots more from around Tirana…these are part of one large complex called Zall-Herr…which is actually very spread out and conected through tunnels or roads…I havn’t found all the sites around there since many are too hard to spot.

A barracks of some sort…who kows what inside
    http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4472/2148lh.jpg

The entrance at one part of the base…the roads lead off to artillery depots further up
    http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3994/4569wo.jpg

Artillery range…looks like training also goes on here since some of the guns are in firing position…about 20 large guns can be seen
    http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7720/46340ae.jpg

Another artillery depo…about 30 large guns outside
    http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6695/86765wx.jpg

Another depo for armoured vehicles…looks like a row of M-113s
    http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5314/ftyf9bv.jpg

Part of the complex…with a road leading to some underground tunnel entrances
    http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2162/5745py.jpg

Large vehicle storage area…which seems to end in roads which go nowhere…probably lead to underground tunnels

Base of Republican Guards at the outskirts of Tirana (not part of the Zall-Herr complex)

Actually arthur there’s several pics of Albania’s underground bases…

There were two in fact…equally important. There was Gjader in the North…which is similar (or very identical) to the Chinese tunnel you posted with the J-6s in it…as well as Zadrima AFB which also had two underground tunnels.

Besides airfields…there are many many many other underground facilities in Albania. The main command centers for major bases are located in multi-story underground bunkers…one nearby Tirana where a cousin of mine worked was 5 stories all underground…and many tanks and artillery are stored in underground tunnels.

    Here are pics:

Google finally decided to provide some satellite photos of Albania now…and from these there’s plenty to be seen!! Here are some of what I’v been able to find so far…just looking mostly at random:

Military wing of the port of Durres…showing two T-43s and several customs and police boats

Naval base of Pasha Liman..the ones the Turks have now renovated (the photo was probably taken before this…the google satellite photos seem to be a few years old anyway)…in the photo you can see at least 3 Honchuan-II TBs (one on dry dock), one Shanghai-II, what is probably a tanker on dry dock as well, and a variety of other crafts I can’t make out.
    http://img286.imageshack.us/img286/5051/pashaliman1mw.jpg

Another view shoing the entry into the dry dock…as well as 4 more Honchuan hulls on land…three of which seem to be derelict

Still at Pasha Liman…the final resting place of the 4 Albanian submarines…they still float but can’t submerge anymore. next to them also a derelict civilian ship…and to the right a military tanker

See how quickly we turn this into BS about Albania and a pissing contest?? You refuse to have a civili dsicussion on the rality of the Serbian AF…instead you throw around things about Su-30s and PAK-FAs…and when someone comes knocking telling you some reality and why you’r talking about nonsense…you instantly resort to ”well Albania bla bla bla”…its like a knee-jerk reaction.

Nice try trying to wriggle out of it but no dice. If the deal was made in 1996, then why were you still believing in it in 2004? If nothing happens in 8 years, a semi-intelligent person would realize that it was not true.

Once more…you must have problem comprehending english or something…I said the deal was CANCELED in 2001…and this wasn’t reported in public.

Like your claim that a Type-59 is superior to an M-84 in mountainous terrain?

Well this has more to do with your understanding than with what I said. What I said was…tanks won’t do well in a mountnous terrain like that…where the engagement distances are so short…a Type-59 would be capable of taking on even an M-84 at such distances…because besides about 1/3 of the front profile…the rest of the tank is penetrabale even by the 100mm.

You can’t seem to comprehend this…so you assume I said “type-59 is superior to M-84”.

    Where are Albanian Leo 2’s?

When did I say we were getting these?? I said its an OPTION if we could get the same deal Poland got on them.

Do you understand english…or is your understanding so limited you only get about half of what I say and then make up the other half??

Serbia was in A WAR during those years. Generally a country’s defense expenditures during a war are higher than normal. That’s why throughout the entire 90’s Serbia spent a high percentage of GDP on its military. What is unusual about that?

Serbia was in a war?? With who?? The Ottoman Empire??

No it wasn’t, it was from your imagination

LOL…Vojska stopped publishing in September 2005…

BS. First of all, by the mid 90’s there were ONLY TWO people in all of Albania qualified to fly the F-7. The majority of pilots didn’t fly jets at all. Maybe Albania’s “top gun” got 20 hours a year but it certainly wasn’t the average for the entire airforce.

First of all…and I know you’r just throwing around things you’v heard other people here saying without you actually knowing if they’r true or not…you just throw them around…J-7s havn’t flown since the mid-90s…and J-7 wasn’t our only type. There were also the J-6s, J-5s and so forth.

WHAT…exactly…leads you to assume when I said they get 20-30 hours…that I was talking about J-7s?? Or its just an assumption of yours??

Who told you the “majority of pilots didn’t fly jets at all”?? And who flew the about 30 or so jets that were still in active service up to a few months ago??

The average?? No the avergae would be higher becsue in that 10 hours fo rthe Serbian AF they included helicopter and transport pilots as well…while if I included helicopter pilots for Albania it would be higher since they fly up to NATO standarts…

If you can’t differentiate between gallons and tons then why should I waste my time with you?

LOL…right ok ok…never mind…that was a misunderstanding on my part…which led tome to think it was quite amuzing you were saying 500 gallons.

Reagrdless…what I said still stands…you’d have to know what the previous year’s fuel consumption was…to compare it to this years…to tell us if htis is a “gigantic” increase of 10-12 times flight hours (One more thing…is there even a single aircraft in Serbia that can HANDLE 150 hours of flight a year without falling appart???)

The difference Kapedani is that you make up things as you go along while I and most other people here get our information from official sources. Maybe if you didn’t invent things you might get taken more seriously.

This is priceless GOLD comping from Slobo…

Kapedani, Slobo has already embarrassed you enough by posting your wildly optimistic claims about Albania’s army for your ‘level-headed’ opinion to hold any weight whatsoever. You are in no position to put an end to anything.

Slobo embarrases only himself…since he simply can’t undertand the things I say.

He quotes things I said about 2 YEARS ago. Things change with time. What I reported back then on MiG-21s and upgrade plans for them…WAS the situation at the time. Slobo either can’t understand that things change with times…or you just didn’t get it that he was quoting very old stuff 😉

I already explained to him several times how the situation changed…he just doesn’t get it. The MiG-21 deal with Ukraine WAS indeed made and approved already since 96 by the Parliament…and finally when the situation stabilized…it was voted that the deal be canacled in 2001. Thats why it didn’t happen…insetad an upgrade for the J-7s was sought…and that didn’t happen either.

EVERYTHING I’v posted is what MoD says…Slobo just can’t comprehend such things. He makes fun of me for saying about F-5 deals with Turkey. I gave full details of that deal…and why it WON’T happen…but again this is too much information for him to understand.

I gave full details on the situation with the L-139s…but again too much info for him.

You’r telling me I’m “embarrased” by some rambelings of Slobo?? LOL…thats why I didn’t reply to him…

You could also help your case by at least trying to hide your very obvious prejudices. Frankly kind of language (“you people”) verges on racism and I am reporting you to the moderators for causing offense.

LOL…because I said “you people”?? Am I supposed to reply by naming each one of your names (ink, Kobra, Slobo, DJnik)???…If you take offense to it…don’t put yourself in the same group wth them…

o it isn’t being reduced. It was reduced to 2.5% and now it will remain stable.

Who told you it will remain stable??

It is not all that different and we both know it.

When I say 25% for equipping…and you say 25% for equipping, construction and research…are obvously not the same things.

And this is precision itself I’m sure:

Hmm…what I gave is a GENERALIZATION of the AVERAGE NATO-PfP army…which actually tells more than what you gave…but regardless I though you’d understand its a GENERALIZATION.

Actually what I’d like to see…and what you obviously can’t show (becasue there is such a thing as transparancy…which Serbia’s military obviously doesn’t have…because how else are the heaps of generals going to make their money??)…is something like this for example:

    2004 Albanian MoD budget breakdown
    http://www.mod.gov.al/alb/forcat/buxheti2.asp

THIS is what will tell us how much money ACTUALLY goes to purchesing and new vehicles or weapons or so forth.

You understand what I’m talking about???

The ‘equipping’ budget is clearly not only for the air force and it clearly is not only intended for purchasing weapons. Whats your point?

The point is the “equipping” budget doesn’t tell us anything…what it needs to tell us is WHAT does this budget go towards…becasue if they had to resort to such measures to get 10 million dollars for the MiGs…how much do you think is left over for buying billion dollar Su-30s??

Could have fooled me – again. Serbia has experienced amazing turmoil since the fall of the Berlin wall. The state it belonged to fell appart violently. Strict economic, cultural and diplomatic sanctions emposed in 1992 were never completely removed until 2000. In 1993-1994 Serbia experienced hyper-inflation worse than ever experienced by any country in history (including Weimar Germany). In 1996-97 Serbia experienced some of history’s longest strikes and demonstrations during a period of significant political unrest. In 1998-99 a part of Serbia’s territory was subject to a violent seperatist movement and Serbia was bombed by the most powerful nations on the planet for 78 days (NATO used nearly 40% of their front-line assets apparently). Then in 2000 Serbia experienced a revolution that may not have been violent but certainly was damaging to the economy. Taking these factors into consideration I would say that Serbia’s military is doing amazingly well. Countries in the region with a much more positive, easier recent history (lets take Croatia for e.g.) are struggling almost as much.

When you spend a ridiculous ammount on your military budget (as Serbia was doing up till 2001 when it was over 6% of GDP I think!!!)…you’ll do well…

That’s incredible news you’ve got there, considering Vojska magazine has not been printed for several years.

    Really?? Hmm…this was from February 2005 😉

First, 10 hours a year is 10 more than any Albanian jet pilot got.

When the Migs were operational…they got about 20-30…thats 10-20 more than yours did…but thats not the point becasue we aren’t here to talk about Albania…

Second, as I already said on the first page of this thread, the amount of fuel will be massively increased this year and next. If my calculations are correct, based on how much fuel they got last year for an average of 10 hours, they should get about 10-12 times that many hours next year. An exact figure is impossible to determine without knowing what portion of this fuel is spent on flying.

LOL…calculator boy…how many gallons of fuel are spend in 1 hour of flight by a MiG-21…a J-22…a G-4…a Gazelle…an Mi-8…an An-26…or some other type??? What if they decide to go a little bit faster??

You must be really smart Slobo…

Also wouldn’t you need to know the previous year’s fuel consumption to be able to know if its 10-12 times greater now?? Are you telling me last year the Serbian AF got ONLY 500 gallons worth of fuel?? Damn…my car spends more than that in 3 months…

Now before anyone accuses me of having wild dreams, I am not claiming that things are great for the Serbian AF right now, what I am claiming is that the situation is improving. Unlike Kapedani’s predictions that everything is getting worse.

I’m not making any predictions of anything…I’m telling you the reality…You’r making predicitons of Su-30s and PAK-FAs…all of “you people”…and thats why its so hillarious and ridiculous…

I didn’t say anything about Turkish Greek war…not my concern…

And no the money is NOT NATO money…it is directly from Turkey…part of Turkish MoD expenditures…appliable only to Turkey. Nothing to do with NATO…so LISTEN to what we’r saying before either coming up with your own theories or better yet jumping in here telling us what fools we are. You don’t even bother to read what we’r saying.

I know you didnt say it but you also told me to calm down Slobo and other ones with their illusions.

Ever said anything nice about Serbia? Not just on this board but at any time in your life?

Yes…it was nice when we no longer shared a border…

Frankly Kapedani, you’re just a little too determined to paint a pessemistic picture of everything Serbian and it brings into question every single thing you say. If you made any attempt to be a little bit more objective then your points might carry some more weight.

You people are here talking about Su-30s and PAK-FAs…and you’r criticizing me for the way I’m painting the situation.

    Thats rich…

Previous defense budgets are not the topic of discussion. Besides, the high expenditure on defense was mostly to do with the fact that during the years 1991-95 and 1998-99 Serbia was in a much less stabe security environment (and also had a much smaller budget due to sanctions and corruption). Also you will notice that since 2004 the budget has been very significantly reduced – this fits perfectly with past announcements of ministers of defense and with a steady policy of downsizing*. In any case – the past is not very relevant for this discussion.

    Same as what I said…

Is that information just imagined or do you actually have any real sources? Check out the defense white paper.

You just said it above…I clearly said…as a GDP PERCENTAGE it is being reduced.

Yea yea, you’re bringing Albania into this because of Slobo – whatever. We all know you can’t wait to compare the two countries… Its your favourite thing to do.

Well if he’s going to be throwing things around that make no sense…I might as well explain things to him.

You’ll notice that the 548 million dollars spent on Salaries and Regular Activities amounts to approximately 75% of the budget total – leaving approx 25% for equipping, construction and research.

Hmm…25% for “equipping, construction and research”…I hope you realise that is VERY different from what I said above it…

25-35% for maintanance, infrastructure and such, and about 25% for equipment purchases

As I said the brakdown provided in your list is too vague to make anything out of it…

And if you think I’m painitng a too dark image of the Serbian Armed forces (in opposition to you PAK-FA and Su-30 proposals which are all too understanbale of course 😉 )….you forgot to reply to my point on how the 10 million euros for the MiG-29 refurbishment were gotten…if the budget for “equipping” is so high and big as you suggest (which your figures suggest NOTHING of the sort…and the budget for ACTUAL new procurment of new equipment is something like 10% of that)…I’d think finding 10 millions for 5 MiG-29s after several years…wouldn’t be much of a problem…and wouldn’t require that army property be sold off and money be set aside from them for just this purpose.

You forgot to reply to that one…

    ———-

I’m not here to paint a dark picture of Serbian Army…they do a good enough job of that themselves. I’m here to hopefully put an end to the very ridiculous and crazy discussions that ALWAYS go on when Serbs talk about their army. Su-30s and PAK-FAs?? What the hell are you thinking?? And it snot here and isolated…this seems to be going on everywhere. its very amuzing…I’m just a bit concerned.

And you tell us Kapedani that we are having illusions. Turkish base in Albania will never happen

First of all…I didn’t write that…why did my name come up? Second…read my reply to what he said…

Third…there are ALREADY Turkish bases in Albania. The Naval base at Pasha Liman…recently referbished after a 10 million dollar deal with Turkey….also houses a 600 strong Turkish detachment, is commanded by a Turkish officer…and was agreed upon by Albania to allow Turkish ships to use the base at will…in exchnage for Turkish training…and later on naval vessals.

And the airbase at Kucova…Zadrima AFB…was also recently refurbished by the Turks to NATO standarts.

See here’s the difference between what we say and what you say…we say what is already happening and is confirmed by MOD…whether you know it or like it or not…You just say a whole lot of imaginary things.
