Stirling hatch
Here are some Photos of the Hatch, hope they are of interest?
Hello FN, There is very little Stirling stuff about, when I started collecting it in 1989,people I met were all too keen to exchange Stirling Fittings for Lancaster stuff,The Stirlings rightly or wrongly didn`t have the same allure. There are now however a few Lanc `homebuilds` some superbly engineered from nothing. The biggest loss to the Stirling `cause` I feel was when a pile of cockpit airframe which came out of a riverbank was scrapped about ten years ago.it really was in superb condition. If I see anything Stirling these days ,I try to get it and worry about the money later, the stuff appears when people are skint then is bought and goes to ground again.I saw an escape hatch on an `auction site` which, true, went for alot of money, but I wish I`d bought it now as to make one would take some serious time and never be original.

Firefly
Hi,
Just seen the post asking for parts for the project. I have a brand new ext/downward ident lights box (fits to RH lower cockpit wall if you want it) I also know where there are some more in similar condition.
I’ll try and remember to bring it (and the prop photos) to the “fest” at Newark week after next.Anon.

Did someone mention Firefly?
Now i can put a face to a name,i assume that what you have bought that you are interested in engine stuff?
Andrew
Well I had a thoroughly good time…the sun was shining…drove 90 miles there in my trusty Golf TDi and arrived at 08:44…..Ka-Chow! (to quote Lightning McQueen).
I was slightly disappointed in the stalls until I found a nice DB601 liner/piston/connecting-rod assembly…then I found some Bristol Hercules bits too. Had some interesting conversations with some of the stallholders and didnβt even have time to look at the books (which was lucky really…Iβve got too many books).
Sort of βhalf-metβ somebody who is building a Fairey Firefly…awfully familiar sounding story…must be somebody on this forum.
Spent far more than I intended and will have to sell something to pay for it all…..a kidney probably! π

The Dials arrived today ,Fantastic.
Good to have an original Blind flying panel anti vibration bracket ,they are a specific Firefly part & are slightly differnt from the standard bracket .
I can now make the other two that i need using the original as a pattern.
Thank you very much!!!!!!
Andrew:) π
Darrt
I joined DARRT in 1993 and went on a couple of digs and loved every minute of being part of the group, however as the years went by things slowed down quite a lot recovery wise.
Two other members are in this Forum HMS Vulture and BrewerJerry, the later being the authour of the RAF Harrowbeer book, and HMS Vulture being DARRT’s secretary.
Robin (chairman) of the group had his fair share of personal problems to deal with over the years, and everything recovered I think since the late 60’s/70’s is in storge, DARRT has a museum but I think things are on hold at the moment.
It would be nice for the items recovered to be displayed but as usual ‘TIME’ is always hard to spare as most of us have boring things to do on weekends!!!
Amongst the items in the collection are numerous engines/airframe parts and a complete Fairey Battle wing, the list is endless……………:)
