Local councils are fighting over putting the model on a roundabout to point toward the Brooklands Museum!

Sorry, can’t help. But good luck with that project. Sounds a bit like the Miles Student?
I saw the Miles Sparrowjet at Shoreham and in the Goodyear race back in the early 1950s. It had a couple of tiny Palas jet engines – perhaps the same ones that were used for your project. They made a lovely swishing sound as they passed overhead.

And I thought this thread was about striking workers…
Bri :diablo:
The MiG 23 would be my choice, too. Just to get a look at their way of swinging the wings! Seems a neat, thin, design from the outside.
Anybody got any engineering drawings of that to post?
Bri 🙂
These posts make you realise the difference between aircraft enthusiast volunteers and paid employees.
The boss of the Hendon museum really needs to give his employees a darned good talking to. Either that, or sack the lot and find some volunteers!
Bri 🙂
I’m ex-service groundcrew and, on a visit to the MAM (Midlands Aircraft Museum, UK), they let me into their superb Canberra and Vulcan cockpits which was great! Made my day, and I now recommend MAM to anyone.
On the other hand, I was annoyed at the attitude of the staff in the RAF Museum, Hendon. On a recent visit, my friend just touched an engine that was just inside a barrier and was pounced on by an officious woman who said “DON’T TOUCH!”
That happened twice in the one visit, with two different members of staff. I thought these sub-human creatures died out sometime in the 1940s. Won’t be going back there.
RAF Museum Cosford is not like that. Good for them.
Brooklands Museum shows people around and lets them enter the cockpits of several of their airliners as long as there is a ‘volunteer’ present. Great stuff!

Cyrillic tips!
Thanks for the link, Tillerman, I have been fascinated by Russian aircraft and space rockets for years but there are more opportunities now to check out their interesting types post-communism.
Steve, it’s easier to identify makes just by knowing the first letter equivalents, which are shown under the heading ‘Common letters’ in Wikepedia (link below). Print them out for reference.
For example the Russian (Cyrillic) ‘C’ is our ‘s’ sound so, only one aircraft type begins with S and that is Sukhoi! Their ‘T’ is still ‘t’ and the only type is Tupolev and so on. Check the model number after, for example Tx-22 is a Tupolev 22 (I have used an ‘x’ for convenience).
By the way, I (accidentally!) found another web page on this site (see below) which has useful links at top right. Click on each one, and it has many lists of aircraft to click on. The Vostok is there too.
Hope that helps!

I’ve had a Fuji S5000 for a couple of years now, and the picture quality has always been superb. However, I can’t say the same for the camera’s controls, which can be a pain.
The on/off switch gets knocked on all the time, whether in a camera bag or on the shoulder. The settings knob also moves at any time. But the worst is the focus knob, which can come unlocked – unnoticed – and ruins the telephoto focussing.
I understand the pixels on these cameras are hexagonal, compared to round on other makes. This ‘fills’ in’ the corners which are ’empty’ on round pixels if you see what I mean. That’s what gives them such good picture quality.
Mind you, the cheaper Fuji digitals are not good at all. My lady friend, bless her, asked me to buy her digital camera for her as she is a non-techie. I bought a £100 Fuji at Tesco and had to take it back because the LCD screen could not be seen out of doors! Picture quality wasn’t up to much either.
So I ended up getting her a £100 Nikon which is superb – picture quality is about as good as my S5000.
Having mentioned the problems with my Fuji, I wouldn’t swap it for another!
Hope I haven’t sent you all off to sleep.

Great video, and what a fantastic roll rate the Mirage has.
You should have warned us to have our sick bags ready 😉

Fantastic pictures wingnut!
Sorry, Cavok, for misunderstanding your original thread. Too long sitting at a computer screen is my excuse! And thanks for the offer of a contact later. I’m certainly looking forward to the Hurtigruten.
Perhaps you will put something on YouTube when your Tiger meet happens?
Bri 🙂
It was cancelled by Wilson’s bloody government, that’s what happened to it!
Bri 😮
How come it went to the back of beyond?
Wasn’t Darwin good enough for it?
Bri
If it’s that dirty, it aint looked after. Bit like British Railways trains.
Perhaps the CAA could have a look at it…
And I don’t want it flying over me!
Bri
