    Cost.

The ability for the ship to steam for years on end without refuelling doesn’t mean it can operate without frequent resupply, & it doesn’t operate alone. Fuel for the ship is only a small part of supplies. Fuel for the air group, food & other consumables still need to be supplied, & escorts are not nuclear.

What would going nuclear do to the crew size? I imagine it would increase it substantialy. Thoughts?

Sometimes I feel like countries which work on the T-50, FC1 & so on are in fact trying to rediscover the F20.

    Nic

The T-50 kinda reminds me of a single engined Cing Chuo

Even if you hang weapons externally on the F-35 it still has a better RCS sig than 4th gen, better SA, better radar, better range, etc.

Not “has” but “will have”. Nitpicky I know, but the thing isnt in service yet.:D

I did assume that “NATO standard” pretty much meant any NATO force could use the others bombs.

Has it even been descided whos fixed wing aircraft (if any) will operate off this ship? Joint force is gone and as far as I’v heard the F-35s being bought will belong to the RAF. Is there any plan at all in place for the air group that will operate off this ship?

A second CdG wouldnt have the unfortunate power plant of the 1st would it? As I understand it, pretty much all her problems stem from it.

Interesting videos Stryker73, the ship looks like its coming together. People may want to check this out if they haven’t already http://www.aircraftmagazine.co.uk/latestissue.php I picked this up today and it does contain some very good, well illustrated articles on the FAA. One of which, About the last cruise of HMS Ark Royal mentioned in conclusion how a Portsmouth city councillor has apparently written to both The Queen and Prince Charles in an effort to get them to rename one of the CVFs, probably HMS Prince of Wales, ‘Ark Royal‘. From the Author’s writing, he didn’t sound too hopeful.
There was also a segment entitled ‘From the Archives’ concerning sadly unsuccessful efforts at the behest of SACLANT to grant HMS Ark Royal a stay of execution :(.

Ark Royal would be a much better (imho) name than PoW. Hope it happens.

That would be a rather poor comparison to make since CdG was new and nuclear powered.

And WAAY more capable. But what Im really looking for, is just how much this fiasco will cost the Indian Navy once/if it is finaly delivered.

How would the final price of this ship compare with another 45,000 ton aircraft carrier? Say…..Charles de Gaul?
