Perhaps they aren’t over priced at all, may be its just your perspective; after all ,you wouldn’t want to have to make one from scratch would you?

Correct, but the last one I got about 18 months ago, ish. Was complete with all pumps, carb, log cards and inhibited and that was £10,000, admittedly, it still wanted an overhaul, but there you go, and it hadn’t been used in a wind tunnell at Boscombe Down.

Still over priced, if you want to pay this sort of money, they’ll keep putting the price up.
I’ve been opperating Merlins for 2 decades and they were overpriced then and they’re overpriced now.

    Hi
    Just see this on Ebay.

Yep, all you need is a carb, a set of magnetos, plugs, harnesses, fuel pump, oil pump, coolant pump, a set of crms and then you can spend about £150,000 to get it restored to put in ya spitfire,
It’s gross over pricing, just because its a merlin dont mean its worth a kings ransom.

    A bllody expensive ornament.

As a sidenote I can mention that a colleague of mine told me a story about OFMC at one stage (early 1990’s) wanted to equip MH434 with a drop tank.
My colleague made the tank here in Norway, but apperently the project ran aground when the UK CAA didn’t like the idea…
I don’t know where the tank is now

I remember that tank, I was working for OFMCo at the time. It was very well made, Don’t know here it went though, I’ll bet some fruit cake does though !!!

OC BBMF after Colin Patterson was Andy Tomalin. However, on a few different tapes I’ve got, he was clearly very nervous when on camera, so perhaps not quite the full-on PR skills needed when you’re OC BBMF?!

    Not quite the “full on”Lancaster driver either. I M H O
