moocher…who is your last post directed at?
If you need that explained to you, then i suggest read it again very slowly.
I W M Dux.
What you seem to have forgotten is, that if a certain number of people who do not work for IWM and not only confined to this forum had not started to mention the fact that this would possibly be the last time any of these aeroplanes would be seen outside it would not have happened. I put my hand up and say I shouted ******* loud and so did a lot of other people, so IWM don’t say this was in any way going to happen without a push.
I suggest you start getting people in post (marketing for one) who have a real interest / are enthusiastic for there job. Think ahead, think what people want to see, talk to members of the public, you know, those oiks who pay your wages.
If I’ve offended you, I suggest i may have touched a nerve. Stop thinking about your position and start thinking about how best to do your job.
Rant over.

I basically agree with Cking but will reserve judgement untill I see it in on site. Didn’t Lightnings tend to go balistic after they took off????
Brian
Only if they intended to land right after take off.
It looks bloody terible,

Hardly a tomb, more like a cocoon.
It is great to see & photograph these planes outside, on a sunny day, but they will be much better off inside.S.B.
It’s a tomb. Also, I hope they clean the dust off them more often than they have been over the last few years.
Fantastic stuff!
Imagine if we could see an airshow at Duxford with both the Static And airworthy examples of airframes side by side= BBMF Lancaster and IWM’s example next to each other would be an amazing sight!. In fact never mind an airshow how about an evening where we get to see a line up of types from the IWM collection and private examples. Themed evenings with Costumed extras. How about a Bomber Command evening=Lancaster, Mosquito maybe the Real aeroplane Co’s Night fighter Hurricane.,ending with sun set flypast. We could have a Jet themed Evening telling the story of it’s development using both static examples from Duxford’s collection and today’s airworthy airframes to show the jets genesis. Endless combinations of airframes with an educational slant.
That would be nice, however, the “Tomb” beckons these treasures. Never to see the light of day again.
Nah. Moocher’s doughnut only exists so he can complain about the hole in it.
Naaagh, You’ll know when I’m really moaning or complainig. It’ll make AF’s post’s seem very tame.
mick.
You must remember, don’t take life to serious, It’s to ******* short.
The aircraft were started to be turned around at 2 o’clock and are all facing the crowd line. Apart from the Anson, I was told they would remain that way over the weekend. Well done to the IWM and the tug driver who had problems trying to push the Lanc. I will post some pictures later when I have had something to eat.
Brian 😀
I know a bloke who could have done that for them, he has previous in moving a Lancaster, usualy into a much tighter space than that.

[QUOTE=Pete Truman]The IWM don’t have to fly or taxy a/c to produce a living museum, it’s already being done for them by OFMC, TFC, Caroline Grace et al.
QUOTE]
I think you’ll find the name is “Carolyn Grace” and not “Caroline Grace”.
mick
It’s not a question of relying on the private operators; the hangarage arrangement is mutually beneficial, as is the opportunity for collaboration between museum and the various private concerns. The roles are clearly defined, static and active, and IWM are extremely unlikely to go back to doing their own running, for all of the very good reasons already given.
Photoshoots are a different matter (and are provided for Friends); unecessary exhibit movements should be avoided, but this can be more easily rationalised and set against the potential benefit of income.
Duxford would be a very dull place without the private owners, imagine if they did all pull out . Dull as ditch water and just as lifeless.
Mind you, some operators won’t move, they’re onto a good thing and have it all sewn up.
Duxford would be far weaker as an attraction for both the public and enthusiast alike without these groups/individuals, but whats stopping the IWM from making more of its own exhibits. Four engines turning on the HP Hastings , or a ground run from the Oxford would be good places to start , both would become unique features to Duxford without the sole survivor tag. After all once the Airspeed Oxford is suspended in the new Air Space building its roll as an educational research subject is going to be somewhat negated.
Septic.
Fear of the unknown and being proved wrong.
Duxford marketing have asked me to post the following:-
“there is quite a good avro photocall happening ‘for 1 day only’ tomorrow, 29th June. Lancaster, York, Vulcan, ANson and CF100 all lined up together”
Come along if you can!
What about the Shacklebomber ?
mick
In other news, I hear the giftshop are now selling these:
It wouldn’t surprise me at all, we don’t want to push anything relevent to aviation heretage do we, or anything the public would like to see.
mick
Very nice Darren, never to be seen again out in the open like that.
IWM, an oppertunity missed.
What an oppertunity for a great photo –
Lancaster –
York –
Vulcan –
“Avro’s Finest” all lined up together on last time.
All on the pan together, when was that last seen.
Come on Duxford, do something brave and put them all together just for a couple of days. It wont hurt you know.
mick (AFs) mate
Yes I will do that for you, just tell me where you want me to send them.
