Tin Triangle,
There are others on here I’m sure are far more qualified to comment, but being as you haven’t had a reply yet…TE184 was re-painted around 18 months ago if I remember rightly, but I think the Duxford show may have been her public debut. She’s certainly had a quiet existence since the new paint was done. The scheme represents PT396, a Mk.IX flown by Wing Commander Jack Charles.
From what I’ve read on previous discussions on the forum, I’m afrad it’s bad news about the colours on BM597. Apparently her date of manufacture means she should be in the later grey/green camouflage rather than the brown/green she has at the moment. What the hell, I agree she looks nice as she is…
Roobarb, thanks for your insights on the roundal colours. Is it any wonder I was confused before??! 🙂 One of the possibilities that had crossed my mind was that ‘407, wearing as she does an exact copy of her 80’s paintjob, was the one with incorrect shades. It’s nice to know the scheme is accurate in both senses. 🙂
I’m glad you like 407, we do too.
And thanks to Bentwingbomber too

I have recieved an email from Stuart Bailey, from GB Repiclas, the company that make these replicas. I think it only fair for me to publish his email (he gave me his permission by the way) so he can put his side of the story.
We are purely a glassfibre moulding business, ….
There are a lot of people who could learn a lot about being a normal human being just by reading the above.
I take my hat off to him for his honesty and humility.

Thats over 16 years ago when I agree BBMF didn’t really care about being authentic but since 1993 a lot more research goes into our schemes and I hope they look a lot better these days. apart froms the Lancs dark earth but thats another story:rolleyes:.
Cheers
Paul
no we were to busy keeping em flying 🙂
I dont think anybody is expecting to land there for free, apart from the performers perhaps.
Its an admin fee – it says so on the form. If it went to charity, however……
If you look at the all the information regarding this wonderfull little air display you will see that one of the charities being supported is “The Anglian Air Ambulance”
So to quote you, “if it went to charity” – It is, So will we see you at Bentwaters now?
I’m looking forward to what looks like a return to a proper, air display, a good mix of aeroplanes and a nice friendly atmosphere.
Mick…..
The ‘breeze’ was across the runway instead of down it, so outside limits and I think it headed back to Coningsby.
Briam
dont know whats changed, never used to need 10 knots head wind,
mind you I left 20 years ago –

Sounds like an excuse for the Imperial WAR Museum to get its hands on a Service aircraft to me….
wouldn’t give one to duxford, it’ll be scrap in a few years or have stars n bars on it, you must all remember the large number of VC10s opperated by the yanks from Duxford in 1918.
mick
just put it out of its misery and scrap it.
Hey, Roob – you’ve done a nice job mate, you gonna park it next to our newly painted spitfire then 🙂
micky the moocher – aka – ???????
As I have just came across the following I thought I’d ask the question… How much would a potential airworthy cam-shaft be from a Rolls-Royce Griffon as I have one stored. I think it’s possibly a spare for a Spitfire PR.19 as it’s ticket is BBMF!
Cheers,
Phil.
pm phil.
cheers for that,
it’s in good condition may be able to pass on to a mustang owner.

Hello pics added??Included in the assembly there looks like a truck tyre valve. Is that a standard WW2 part??
Yeh that schrader valve is a standard part, not sure of part number though. As for getting seals made hmm? Dont get em made in and fit em if the spit is going to come under the bowler hatted numpties in uk, if so you’ll need to get the items sprinkled with holly water, blessed by the pope, and the original drawings sanctioned and authenticated, oh and original material. Apart from that, you’ll be fine.
good luck.
Mick.
I have no vendetta against aviation. Period. It is the inane discussion of avoidable incidents and accidents which really gets my goat.
I have opinions, which others do not like, about the safe, legal and above all the common sense operation of aircraft so as they remain intact and operational, along with the pilots and the general public, so my grand children will be able to appreciate them in the future.
The aircraft I own and fly are nearly 50 years old, so not nearly ready a museum yet. I am aware of the obstructions at the end of my runway and take action accordingly, and at an unfamiliar field, a look-see often helps to identify potential hazards.
With no time on a BF109 I dont know what you can see, I suspect about the same as some other tailwheel types of which I do have some experience.
Posts on this and other forums suggest the poles were there a week beforehand and did not suddenly spring into the flightpath as SP flew over, therefore they were a known obstruction?
As for the Victor, whatever the hows/whys and wherefores, it was an illegal flight, pure and simple. Can you really tell me otherwise?
Thank you for spelling my name correctly, galdri – you are the only one whos managed it so far!
Malcom,
It takes a brave man, with big ******** to voice his (or her) opinions on here, we all have have em. It’s just a shame a lot of people on here talk a lot of ********.
mick
there are some people out there who aren’t obsessed with old aeroplanes….. 😀
yeh we have to work on em ………………..
I think ‘plan’ is a little over the top for what was, at best, a barely founded rumour of a future possibility.
Moggy
You never know whats around the corner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
