    ?????

So you think it would be a good idea to firebomb an already burning fuel depot rather than trying to stop the fire from engulfing the remaining tanks???

    He meant water bombers!

The turbulence above a fire this large is too strong for planes. A fire expert mentioned on Dutch TV that the best anyone could do is to let it burn out. Make sure nothing else catches fire, and beyond that do nothing.

Same guy also mentioned that this fire could only have been caused due to over pressure. I wonder if they ever found out how this over pressure was able to build up without being noticed. Assuming of course the expert did not miss something and the cause is different.

That doesnt look right, a 744 wouldnt be that low, with gear down, right next to the smoke would it??

Or possibly that smoke could be miles away!

Still it doesnt look correct to me

if you use a very long zoom then this effect is actually quite easy to get. Comparable to the numerous moon shots with a tiny plane in front.

I love it. Landor messing up another livery is a bit of a sweeping statement.

Well, it is of course a matter of taste but I prefer the “flying cucumber” livery a lot better.

    hi

im working on a ‘Prevention of Air Accidents’ presentation and im trying to think of an incident that i believe happened in France, involving a Shorts 360, whereby the English flight crew could not understand what a French Controller was saying to a french pilot. The english pilots on the Shorts, continued to taxi, when an aircraft took off. the aircraft wing hit the Shorts slicing part of the roof off.

the following investigation revealed that had the controller spoken French, the English pilots would have realised what the other aircraft was doing, and so wouldn’t have continued to taxi.

did i dream this up, or did such an incident occur? if an accident like this did not happen, can anyone give details of similar accidents, where the language barrier was the primary, or one of the causes?

any help would be really great

    thanks

    That accident did happen.

The digital zoom is the same as cropping a photo with your PC. Except, the PC does a halve decent job at it while the camera will mess it up most of the time. So just shoot with as much optical zoom as you have, and resize/crop as appropriate.

The A340 is still selling well, it would be odd for Finnair to go Boeing, considering their short haul fleet is almost entirely Airbus.

But Finnair also has a lot of 757s.

While I like the looks of a A340, I will miss the MD-11. It is a lovely plane that is being replaced rather quickly. Maybe in a few years KLM will be the only passenger airline still using them. They stated recently they intend to use them till 2010ish.

Tenthije, how did you like bexleyheath/erith, and when did you leave as I’m pretty sure it has deterioated since you lived here (it does on a daily basis), i live in Bexley,

I lived in Bexleyheath in 2002 for 10 or 11 months. Lived on Bostall Park Ave (off Long Lane). Worked at Europa Worldwide Services at Hailey Road (off Yarnton Way), Erith.

I did not think Bexleyheath was all that bad, but Erith/Belvedere could do with a clean-up. πŸ™‚

Is the parking lot behind the Bexleyheath Asda still a no-go area? πŸ˜‰

Ok the An-22 might just do it πŸ˜€

Actually, I just remembered you might want to wait a bit longer. The Buran space shuttle will join the Speyer collection, but I am not sure when. Do not wait too long though, as a part of the collection is rusting away in front of your eyes. The fact the planes are placed high up on poles does not make even the most basic of maintenance possible.

    No.6 is just a dream – right ?

Most definately not. The Angels will have a short visit to Europe visiting only Leeuwarden. Of course subject to change due to weather, war, terrorism, lack of donuts, NL cowering out of Iraq etc etc. πŸ˜‰

    Great shots!

How do you make those aerial shots? Whenever I try to make pictures while in flight they end up unsharp and washed up.

I’m trying to figure out an excuse to go to Germany. I’d like to photograph the Tu-144D in Sinsheim.

You need more excuse then that?

How about that concorde sitting behind it? Or the An-22 a few miles down the Autobahn in Speyer?

    1) A good shot of any IL-76. All previous shots are too dark.
    2) Zurich or Innsbruck.
    3) KLM A330.
    4) Aviodrome Constellation in flight.
    5) Pic of the week at JP.net (ambitious!).
    6) Blue Angels display team at Leeuwarden AB (NL) the week prior to Farnborough,
