Hey, have fun with it. I am going to buy a new camera shortly as well. It will be a digital because I am getting rather sick of the high cost of developing photos here.
I’ll probably go for the Sony F717. I have seen some photos on the web made by this camera and am wel impressed. I even received an unedited (no photo shop) photo from someone. Even that’s better than my current camera!
If you do this withouth the spaces between [IMG] and the link:
you should get this:
I have been waiting for an excuse to plug this one!
DAMN, five edits and I still ain’t got it to work! I now have the famous red cross! I suppose that means it works, will have to disable my firewall. Something fun for my father to do?😀
Not old but mightily impressive:
I gave lived in London for about a year and on day the Virgin HEMS med-evac helicopter came hovering over the garden. I could see the pilot wondering whether to put it down or not. In the end he decided not to do so, and flew a few blocks further landing there.
He could not have been higher than 20 metres. Just a week later I got another view of it, even closer when it landed near work.
Fortunately both patients that were picked up made it. Them choppers really are amazing things. (still ugly though 😀 )
Flying point-to-point will probably never really kick of. Not in Europe anyway. The reasons I think so is:
* Shortage of capacity, airways, ATC etc
* Environmental lobby is very strong around here. This has restricted a lot of airports. Schiphol for instance could handle more flights and passengers if the laws were not soo strict. Also, take offs and landings are not allowed during the night.
* Too much competition with other forms of transport. In the US you do not have an alternative to long distance travel. In Europe you can take the high speed trains. Often the trains are even faster than the plane (often not cheaper though). As a consequence in Air France has had to cut most of its domestic network.
* Airlines want to save costs. By using a hub you can do with less flights. This saves wages, planes, fuel etc… It’s all about obtaining larger economies of scale.
* Europe is divided in countries. Yes, every European carrier can fly everywere in Europe, but that does not mean it is easily accepted. A lot of passengers still stick to what they know. Often this means their respective flag carrier and/or local charter companies.
* Even if local passengers will step on the foreign carrier there are local autorities that are still in a mindset to favour local carriers. Only few countries are really open for all carriers.
Isn’t NW already in a code-share with DL?
Would be an interesting merger. AF, KL and AZ in Europe and DL, NW and CO in the United States.
Hello everyone, since this thread goes about digital camera’s I’ll add in my question.
I am thinking of buying a digital camera, and am currently looking at the Olympus C-740. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is it any good, or should I go for something else.
Also, since this will be my first digital, is there anything I should pay special attention too. Things easily overlooked or not quite obvious?
Thanks in advance!

Speeders will be stopped, one way or another…

Only in England, the sign…

…and the roundabout that goes with it.

Yes… it’s a women:

Welcome to Holland, you can use drugs and kill people and you’ll get away with it., but don’t you ever ever park on the wrong place. If you do you will be clamped. Even when you have an excuse, such as a medical emergency!

Please read the remark no the bus: “if you are not insured by … you’d better not crash into this bus…

… or the remark on this van. “Titanic Service”, what are the odds of that happening? Well… BIG!

Some more signs?

The police, you either love ’em, or…

Is the second one a Belavia TU-134?
LCC Low Cost Carrier,
Easyjet, Ryanair etc
I shot this one at Farnorough. Not a real plane yet, but still interesting.
I completely agree with you! Thanks for bringing it up, I thought I was the only one!
I have bought every AFM for the last 4 or 5 years, but recently I can not really be bothered anymore. I used to go to the nearest shop selling them the very day they came out, which for me takes 1 hour round trip! Nowadays they are much easier to come by, but I am not going to any length to get them anymore. If I see one I will pick it up, but I am not going on a “AFM-hunt” anymore.
AFM still offers very good quality articles, it is just a pity that a lot of articles describe the mondane. Another Eurofighter story, another F16 story, another review of the UK and/or US forces.
Also, let’s be honest about it, a lot of their stories repeat themselves every 2 or so years. In the latest copy (june 03) they compare the planes that will be the big sellers for the years to come (F35, Typhoon, Rafale, Grippen etc). They even say in this article that this is published every 2 years!
And then there always is the before mentioned US and UK review.
