You still see Air Dolimiti, when the rest of the regional LH fleet are flying around in LH Regional colours.

Isn’t Air Dolomiti an independant airline, whereas the other LH Regionals are (part-) owned by LH?

Not all, I think they will continue to operate intercontinetal flights from ZRH using the Swiss cooperate identity. At least those making money.

Well, that leaves just 2 or 3 long hauls. Most of Swiss’ long haul is not profitable. But perhaps a A319CJ styl operation could be more succesful? Similar to LH/Privatair flying from DUS to New York and Chicago.

Air France took over KLM, and KLM still survives

There is a specific clause in the merger (take-over) contract that states that KLM is to retain its identity for at least five years. After those five years it remains to be seen what will happen.

Personally I am not too worried as KLM is too strong a brand to just kill of. It would not be in AF’ best advantage. However, changes are likely… perhaps even loosing some of the blue?

I know a lot of people are worried though that AF will kill of KLM and make it something like AF Nord. (Jwenting for instance) We’ll see.

Must have been another aircraft. The photo is looking DOWN on the 747. The jumbo itself may be landing, but still flying high enough to avoid hitting building and advertising signs. Must be quite high then. No tall highrise would be allowed near the runway allowing such views. As such, it must be from a plane.

LAX seems to be very common for shots from planes. Small planes can fly directly over the final approach at high altitudes. You get a lot of those shots, though most of the time from planes taking of instead of landing.

Still, requires a lot of zoom, a very steady hand (shooting from a plane is not easy!) and a fair amount of luck as well.

The X-ray for passengers is only for metal objects (arms all sorts) and in some cases explosives. The X-ray for suitcases are for weapons and bombs.

No drug control by X-ray, since X-ray only detect metal objects. Sniffer dogs are used for drugs hunting as well as explosive hunting.

Flying in a catalina including (weather permitting) a landing on water. It should be affordable even when including an easyjet ticket to AMS and the train fare to lelystad.

eur 179 for half an hour
eur 279 for a full hour (march 28 only)

Isn’t it considered a curse to rename a ship in naval tradition? Certainly didn’t work out for the “Deutschland/Lutzow”, she was blown apaprt by Norwegian coastal batteries in 1940…., unless I’m mistaken as I seem to think that was the cruiser Blucher’s fate

It is considered bad luck, but the ship will be scuttled. So what if it attracts a bit of bad luck. What’s the worst that can happen? It will stay afloat?

There is also massive demand for more ATC’ers in the Netherlands. They are advertising every year to attract new students. I did want to get in, but there is a limit on how strong your glasses may be (max -5.0) and I am at that limit.

Seems a bit strange a requirement though, considering that most of the time you will not look anywhere but on a radar screen. Some parts of ATC don’t have a view other than the radar at all!

Slightly off topic, but you can fly in a Catalina and (weather permitting) experience a landing on water. A half hour flight will set you back 179 euros. During easter, march 28, you can fly one hour for 279 euros.
