Airport Tycoon 2 must have been a massive improvement over AT1 because I thoroughly hated that one. I have not try either AT2 or A5 but from what i’ve heard you should go with A5.

I believe they are attached by bolts to the engine pylon. These bolts are designed to snap at a certain number of G force. In theory the engines therefore only snap during a crash when there are large G forces working on the plane. The advantage is that the engine falls off in an anticipated way. Therefore fuel lines etc can be designed in a way to self seal to prevent a fire ball upon landing.

Of course it is quite annoying when the engines fall of when a plane has high G, but is not crashing. The people in the Amsterdam suburb of the Bijlmermeer learned that the hard way when El Al gave them a surprise visit.

Don’t worry, you’ll recognise the A318 for sure! It just looks wrong. Just like the 753, you will always recognise it. I have seen the A318 a few times now, once as an AF flight to AMS and twice as a prototype at both Le Bourget and Farnborough.

Surprised it didn’t get a water cannon salute, I know it did when it came into LHR.

They did that not to celebrate! They did that on the request of LHR ATC! Because of all the dirt they had difficulties seeing it, so they requested a shower for the AF flight!

Boeing would definately tell when they sell a 744ER because it is not the most succesful of planes. It can use any good news there is.

Besides, NCA seems to be quite happy with the range of their current fleet of 742Fs. The 744F already has more range so the added range over the 744F of the 744ERF is not necessary.

    EC Rules against Ryanair!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3453285.stm

Budget airline Ryanair has been told incentives it received to use a small Belgian airport were illegal. The Irish airline was given discounts on landing fees and other perks to use Charleroi airport, south of Brussels.

The EC did not say how much Ryanair would repay, but that it was “reasonable” and meant they could still use the airport. Now the firm, the Walloon authorities, and the European Parliament are examining closely any possible knock-on effects.

The cut-price Irish carrier and the European Parliament had warned the ruling could force up prices, and that the Charleroi area, which has benefited from Ryanair’s presence, could lose out if Ryanair now decides to cut operations from the region.

This morning (02/02/04) the F70 arrived on a flatbed lorry at Fokkers maintenance base at Woensdrecht. There it will be repaired.

I don’t think they will be replaced at all. Swiss does want to downsize so this could be (part) of their strategy to do so.

The plane made a crash landing a few miles short of its destination, Munich airport. The accident happened january 6th. No casualties but there where 3 or 4 minor injuries. The reason for the emergency landing was a failure of both engines, why they failed is being investigated.
