Does anyone know what spotting/photography is like there, and what the rules are? Thanks
The Encyclopedia of world military aircraft (single volume edition) by David Donald and Jon Lake. Published by Aerospace Publishing London. ISBN (UK) 1-874023-95-6.
For civil airplanes I use the international directory of civil aircraft 2001/2002 (can’t be bothered to buy the new edition yet). This book is written by Gerard Frawley and published by Airlife. The ISBN of the 01/02 edition is 1-84037-282-6.

I also got some books that go into one plane type only. A book on concorde, a (dutch language) book on civil fokkers, a book on the IL76 and some more.
Not quite an airport, but this is what it looks like here. The first snow I have seen in a looooooong time!

Where are these planes now, and in what liveries. Is there any A330 left in VG livery?

At BAA airports you need their permission to take photos, from the terminal or airside. There are usually signs stating this and this rule has been around for many years, since at least 1988.
I did not notice any signes stating that last time I was at LHR and GTW. Then again, photography at LHR airside (T1) is next to impossible.
At GTW I immediately went for a VolareWeb A320 that was about to leave without paying much attention to signs and stuff. 😀 I did have to go through another security check because it is at another pier. The security idiot would not let me walk back through the gate he saw me pass less then 5 minutes earlier. Really silly. (the photo ended up terible due to construction works blocking the view)
If only every airport had as logical a layout like AMS. There I can get anywhere and everywhere when airside, except for the Isreali airlines.

I’m surprised BAA has slapped a ban (sorry charge) on shooting planes from their airports. I’m sure it can’t be far away ?
Give them an idea will you! Why not send a postcard to them? 😀
I don’t think that will work. All that would happen is that people move just outside the airport perimeter and shoot from there. A bit further down Myrtle Avenue for instance. Some larger zoom might be required but that should not be a big problem for most.
Nice plane, well done on your 3000!

I made the mistake of standing on the beach in line with the center of the runway while the AF A340 was taking off.
And people say the A340 is underpowered! I read somewhere that locals hang on to the fence and try to get horizontal when a 747 departs. I believe it was actually last months AW.

No airline allows a picture of their livery to go public before its painted. NO airline!
What gives you that impression? Some airlines do. Think of Air Holland whose last 3 liveries were leaked. Also UA seems to be leaked, but that can’t be confirmed till roll out. Various low cost airlines have been leaked as well, we know for instance how NOW and Mama Air will look when/if they commence operations. I seem to recall that VG Airlines was known beforehand as well, but am not sure on that one.
you had to remind me didn’t you! 🙁

Could someone remind me why I did not take a job as TV presenter? Sounds like JC has quite a nice job, testing great cars and flying planes! 😀
I never had any problem with photography airside. I have made loads of pictures airside, most at AMS but also a lot at STN and a few at LHR and GTW.
I can’t believe they asked you to delete the pictures. What if you had had a normal camera, would they have insisted on you handing over the role of film? That’s just silly.
