I can understand United pilots informing ATC that they are carrying the new Livery, to inform the ATC staff that they should be on the look-out for a plane in Continental livery as opposed to the United blue/white. But for a Continental pilot it seems a bit redundant. Other then the font nothing really changed. You need to be a real anorak to notice the difference.

    Leased or fully aqquired ?

where will it be based ?

    What routes ?

Will it be pained silver ?

It will be completely retired from Transavia, so not just a seasonal lease. Therefor the Transavia livery will definately go. I don’t see why it would not be painted in Jet2 livery, but I have no confirmation on that. Whether the plane will be owned outright by Jet2 or through a seconday party I do not know. All I know is what I wrote earlier. I was kind a hoping someone else would be able to fill in those details. 😉

Nice photos! On the first photo, what is that yellow thing for? Is it a power source to avoid using the APU while parked at the gate?

I heard there was a plan to move the LHR Concorde to a pontoon on the Thames. Might put her on the carrier. Put her next to the HMS Belfast.

Not anymore, D-30 powered airframes are banned from landing at EU airports now.

They still fly into the EU, but only on military and aid flights.

There is a twice weekly scheduled IL-76 flight into Eindhoven flying for the RNLAF. And when I say scheduled I do mean scheduled. It is quite possibly the only IL-76 flight anywhere in the world that has a timetable that can be relied on. 😀

The colors are only a bit odd because of the lights or edit I don’t know.

By any chance, did you use the equalize function?

Former Blue Wings A320 N507JT (ex D-ANNB) arrived at Dublin from Perpignan on Sunday, October 26th. It will be painted by Eirtech Aviation into JetBlue livery.

You sure it will be N507JT? Cause this plane was delivered factory-fresh to JetBlue as N507JB, before joining Blue Wings. It would make more sense that this plane takes up its old registration.

Nice photos. You already decided what lense you’re gonna take?

    Hoi Maikel,

I’m using the 100-400L and got no issues at all. If you want to discuss on MSN (so we can more easily share real-size photos) send me your adress through as PM.

Can the quality of the Canon lens with my camera be used from some cropping?

It does so easily on my 30D, so your newer 50D should have no problems whatsoever.

The Sigma has 100mm more mm’s on paper, but what is really the difference in the picture, if you go from 100mm to 200mm, it is clear to see, even 200mm to 300mm, but 400 to 500?

No significant difference. I have not yet missed the extra 100mm at Schiphol. Also, the slide-zoom goes faster then the twist-zoom, which is in my opinion more important then a few more MMs. The photos at the higher end of zoom are usually heathazed to death anyway, unless your going for close-ups and in those case moving a step or two forward will yield the same result.

    edited to add:
PMN’s point of the 50MM at the bottom end is very good and one I had not considered!

A lot of years ago there was a plan to develop a “energy resorvoir”, for lack of better words.

The main problem with windmills is that they only work when there is wind. Of course the demand for electricity does not change with the wind, and batteries are not the most effective form of storage. The plan from engineer Lievense was to put a large 12 meter tall and 20 KM diameter circular dam in the middle of the Markermeer. On top of this dam would be build 400 large wind mills.

In high wind the windmills would supply electrical power, but would also fill the reservoir. In low winds the reservoir would be emptied thus supplying hydro-power.

The main disadvantages where the risk of a tsunami in case something went wrong, and of course the price tag that in 1985 was estimated at 5 billion guilder (~2,3 billion euro, without inflation correction!).

The same process can also be used to make nuclear power more efficient. A nuclear plant works most economical at peak capacity. At night the nuclear plants run at “idle” because there is lower demand. With this water buffer the plant can continue running at optimal capacity. A proposal was made for a 80 meter tall and 5 KM diameter circular dam. Here too the price was just too high.

I’m a big fan of Babylon 5. For me the Earth Alliance Starfury fighter and the Earth Alliance Omega class destroyer (best known for the EAS Agamemnon) just look most convincing as space craft.

edited to add: do semi-organic crafts count? The Shadow battle crab are seriously cool. In Top Gear terms they would go in the DB9 freezer! 😉
