Thank you for your encouragement. It’s a sort of hoping, wishing and waiting for the right person to read this, it is maybe a slight chance but if there is a place, this would probably be it. All in all it is more or less my personal link to WW2, apart from the fact that my family had a small part in helping the local resistance (hiding some people and a radio in the house, whilst at the same time 100 German soldiers occupying the yard!) something I’m still proud of.
I have also been in contact with Wings to Victory, a group of people that does a lot of work in research on the airwar in the province of Zeeland and they have now updated the database with some of the photograps I have sent them. http://wingstovictory.nl/Database/database_detail.php?wtv_id=456
Congratulations on the great news of trying to get the Shackleton back in the air! You and the team have come a long way so far, good luck on working everything out in this next phase.
I have one question: I once again watched a startup movie on Youtube this week in which the team on one engine rotates the propellers by hand for a minute or so before starting. Is this a kind of priming and is this done for this particular engine after maintenance or something?

Just a quick hello to the guys on the Nederlandse Tractor Pulling Forum. Thanks for being interested in how we’re getting on, and its inspiring to know that we’re being watched from further afield than just the UK!
Kind regards,
Rich
Thank you. I am one the guys from the Dutch Pulling Board and I’m very interested in the WR963 project. And don’t worry I’m really not after your engines!! I am a big fan of tractor pulling and of the mighty Griffons. Because of the Griffons I have become interested in the Shackleton as well, allready having a slight interest in (classic) aircraft by the way. And although I love to see, hear and feel a single- or twin Griffon tractor roaring down the track, the Shackeleton has the birthright to use the Griffon. I must admitt that I am sometimes stuck between a rock and a hardplace:(. My posts on the pulling board are more or less ment to show the background of the Griffons and that there’s an old Lady that looks very good with these engines.
And sadly enough I haven’t visited Coventry, the only Shack I have seen in real live is the one in Duxford, but that has been over 15 years ago. It honestly saddens me to see the planes in Long Marston and Cyprus for instance, also the latest images of WL790 in the US, let alone watching the DVD with the story of Pelican‘16’. Of course I’d love to cross the Channel to see this lady one day and even more to see her going down the runway on her own. Can’t wait for the movie on Youtube!
I really admire all the work that has been done so far by the team, getting the plane in the shape she’s in rigth now. On your latest pictures she looks absolutely magnificent!! Keep up the good work! I hope you will find a good solution with everything that’s going on at Coventry airbase, good luck with that also.
All the best,
Jan
