Don’t ever go to the US then… 😉

Whilst it needs some getting used to, passing cars on the “other side” (which is on the right in the civilised world :diablo: ) helps a lot in dense traffic, when nitwits stay on the “fast” or the middle lane because they are afraid a car entering the freeway might hit them.

Nothing worse than coming across some plonker who wont use the inner lane..

That and turning right at a red light when no cars are coming should be made legal everywhere.

    isnt it ???:dev2:

Whether you are in a Ford Ka or a Cadillac Escalade, if you are tavelling at speed and you hit either another car or a pedestrian it will make little difference.

Knowbody should have to justify what car they drive……period.

What ???? a Ford Ka will do as much damage to another car as say a Terrano ?? are you for real ? do you know what a Ford Ka is ? if you sneezed at the thing it would blow away!!

    Knowbody? presume you mean Nobody?

What is the justification in using such a great big lump of iron ( and i include petrol guzzling 4 ltr saloons in this) to do a shopping run or two miles down the road to school with the kids? I repeat once again for those who cant be bothered to read posts fully I dont have a problem with someone using a jeep when they have a need for it in their day to day work or for pulling their horsebox/speed boat /stock car whatever…but not for gods sake to run 2/3 people a mile or two to the local Shops /pub/ school/hairdresser/ et all.

In this day & age where we need to start thinking about more than our ego’s and a bit more about the future and the world we will leave for our kids and grandkids the excuse of ” freedom of choice” or ” i’ll damn well do as i please ” holds about as much water as the argument that you need an AK-47 to shoot Deer !

Jeez even Oily Bush has acknowledged that we need to seriously reduce our dependence on oil at this stage…or is he wrong old boy?

    Hi
I was just wondering, in the intro for EMMERDALE which seems to be taken from a low flying HC there is a bridge but from the angle it is it seems like there is NO USE for it as there does not seem to be any road/rail or water crossing it ??. Does anyone know what it is used for and where it may be:D 😀 .
“(NO MY LIFE ISN’T THAT SAD JUST CONFUSING::o 😮 )”

Can think of half a dozen such bridges dotted around Northern Ireland and parts of the south as well….mostly ex railways…a lot of the time when the bright sparks closed the smaller railways down they insisted on removing not just the tracks but in some cases the embankments as well….mad isnt the word for it 😡 !!!

and sure if life wasnt confusing it would get very boring !:diablo:

I’m proud to say that I got rid of my 4×4 last year. I now have a 2+2 seat coupe that (1) uses more fuel (lower mpg) than the 4×4 did, (2) has higher emissions than the 4×4 did, (3) is classified far less pedestrian friendly should I hit one than the 4×4 was, and (4) can, if I so wish, be driven much more wrecklessly than the 4×4 could. Not only all that, but my current car its far harder to see out of whilst driving, is far less practical, costs more to tax, and more to insure. But of course all the prats who stereotypically think 4x4s are all bad and other cars are better, have welcomed the fact that I rid of the 4×4. ******* em! When I change my car again I am DEFINITELY going back to a 4×4 – my concience will be clear as my next car will be better for the environment, better for pedestrians, and better for me and my wallet.

    A

Which makes me wonder why did you go fro the coupe in the first place???

Concur absolutely and the Frontera was at least a decent lump of metal!. Look at the stats for the Suzuki SJ’s or Vitara’s, Toyota RAV4’s and those types of ’boutique’ 4×4’s and they are even worse. Yet you claim there are all these affluent and educated people who buy such vehicles for no more reason than being a bit flash?. Do you not see the non-sequitor there?.

Well unless it was a different Frontera to the 5 door example which literally folded in half at the b piller in a crash test a number of years ago…i wouldny have fancied being in one for too long !!

Affluent ?? yes to an extent but then how many are like a lot of things on the old never never ??? my point was that a lot of people buy their jeeps because Celma or Clive down the road have one and they have to have a better one…..cant say that i would regard them as being of necessity well educated ..Mind you that doesn’t say that well educated people are the most sensible or for that matter smart….common sense is by far the best qualification for life ..dont you agree ??:)

How about if you, or your family, have a hobby that requires a vehicle with more rough field ability than a Micra or 3-series? Boating, camping, rambling, equestrianism etc, etc. Just because those people do not require a 4×4 for business they should be denied a vehicle that makes the pursuit of their favoured pastimes easier?. How about if you regularly commute into or through rural areas that are known to flood or get snowbound? There are plenty of reasons, other than ‘ego’, for people who live in an urban context to want a vehicle with at least a modicum of rough field capability.

Apologies maybe i should have been clearer..obviously if you have a need for the strength and versatility of a Jeep 4x4in your personal life ..fine go for it..i think my problem and the problem that a lot of people have is the ones that never see mud or for that matter never see a bigger load that the weekly shop…with regards to snow…how often does your average city bound Range Rover , Hummer or Daewoo see a bit of the white stuff ?? lets be realistic please !

In the first case I’ve never seen half a dozen or more 4×4’s parked outside a coffee shop whilst the school run club congregate inside and I’ve covered most of the major towns and cities of this country, through work, between Coventry and Carlisle. Perhaps a behavioural pattern unique to where you live?.

Oh dear..taking things out of context would appear to be somewhat epidemic around here ..that was what i thought was a very very obvious bit of humour.. with the intention of illustrating the point… a lot of 4×4 jeeps never make it further than the school run or down to the local shopping centre …..

The car park and kerb parking are simply examples of bad driving, nothing to do with the vehicle, you see just the same from idiots in Volvo estates or Transits. In one example I saw someone who’d managed to park a Suzuki motorbike in such a fashion to block off a disabled access ramp in a multistorey – should motorbikes be condemned for being bulky and unnecessary?. Your logic would seem to suggest so?!.

Nope…again there seems to be a distinct lack of a sense of humour …if you look back through the tread you will see where i stated that bad driving habits were not an exclusive thing to 4×4 drivers….Ye gods..sea sickness must be catching !!!!:D

Still I’ve made the same points again and again now so I’ll leave this alone and allow those who’re happy with their contrived and unshakeable views to continue in the hopes that their ignorance and myopia doesnt do any further damage to the rights of the individual in this country:rolleyes:

oh dear.. bit on the rude side dont you think…. toys expelled at high velocity from the pram and all that..sorry old son but if you want to make some fairly unfair points you can expect a reply !

You see despite the attitude of some contributors ( who would prefer to berate rather than debate rationally) free speech means something in a REAL democracy and key like to think that their forum is run with at least a semblanceof fairness…after all this isnt Big Bad Bully O’Reilly time on Fox news is it ? 😀
