Maybe it was a gas explosion, or a fuel-air-bomb test, or a rocket engine blew up. A nuclear explosion would have created a gamma-ray burst and that would have been monitored from orbit. But who knows who is really telling the truth here …

gas explosion, or a fuel-air-bomb test:

MOAB (Mother of All Bombs) does and can produce mushroom clouds.
A string of them unleashed over a 21 mile stretch can and will be visible to eyes in the sky.
More to that, MOAB’s are powerfull enough to make holes we call craters.

In fact, CNN had just presented viewer’s opinions and arguments
that gas explosions and forest fire don’t produce mushroom clouds and that the Pentagon
do know what it is but keeping mute about it for God knows why…

More hypothesis: A harmless (no collateral damage) event that
even the mighty Kim Jong himself is scratching his head over at this very moment and
wondering “if it might be a warning shot” from God knows who???

I’d keep all possibilities open until the truth has been proven beyond a doubt.

Heck, Jane’s gets most of their information from the net anyway, so I’d rate Janes and CMF as equivalent.

    Here’s where I’d categorize/rate Jane’s:

A publisher that specializes in military materials and subject matters
in the same class as that of “Life Magazine” while CMF can be compared to that
of publications such as Popular Science and Mechanics Illustrated, etc.

In other words: Jane’s have a vast archive, but not very current….

they cant really do much about it. Kim can keep whatever he has or loose everything…, man nice fiction stories they’ll write  His Generals probably told him that the artilleries are not in good conditions.

    😮

Althought the idea may seem far, and I mean far fetched,
I for one however wouldn’t count anything out until the matter has been
clarified by all concerned as to what had actually happened .

I mean, while the south is creating a smoke screen, distraction if you will, i.e.,
that it too is playing around with the nuclear genie; and, while the Chinese on the other hand
    is offering Kim all sorts of encouragements to remain discreet about it unless he wants to sign his own certtificate;
B-2’s and F-117’s can slip in and out of the peninsula without being detected…

In other words: The Guy might be a total blank about all of this himself!!!!

CNN on the TV did not mention forest fires.

They showed SAT pics on tv..could not spot clouds or forest…. ?

must be the silo near by??? USA would be making all the noise if it really was nuke. Pak tested nukes “under the mountains” and USA knew they tested atleast 3…thats what i heard when CNN first broke the news. Now this one was out in open….so Americans know it wasnt a nuke. and dont trust CNN all the time 😉 they reported shuttle incomming at speed of light…mightve been a typo..but who knows

Theoretically and my way of looking at it:

A “covert preemption” of NK’s nuclear R&D facilities utilizing B-2s and Nighthawks recently
dispatched to Guam is not out of the question. If such an operation indeed took place, I’m sure all of Kim’s
neighbours would have been informed and are maybe in on it though discretions maintained.

Could there be much more to this than that which meets the eye???

CNN has reported that it is a forest fire

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/09/12/nkorea.blast/index.html

Forest fires don’t trigger apparatuses that measures explosions and things. My opinion.

    Hypothetically:

Unless the test is deep underground; “unless it’s a repeat of Chernobyl”; or, “unless
those are MOAB’s (??????) delivered by the B-2’s dispatched from Guam”
; then, I doubt it the
North Koreans are as stupid as to detonate one of those mothers above ground at home.

Logic: The nuclear fallouts are too close to home!!!

Most likely sites of detonation, if any, my opinion: Underground,
as how Pakistan had done it. Or, some Island under the jurisdiction of
Pyongyang either in the Sea of Japan or in the Yellow Sea somewhere betwwen China
and Korea — exactly how the French did it in the South pacific…

The latest Janes Fighting Ship updates (Aug 04) identifies the 052B/C as the Luyang I/II class and the Type 054 as the Jiangkai.

Those decoys are identified as 100mm. But they are unclear on the exact purpose, they just put down possible dual purpose. Also only one chopper is identified as being deployed on board (either Helix or Z9C) the Luyang I and 2 x units are deployed on the Luyang II.

    😮

    Jane’s Fighting Ships :p ? 😀 ?? ???!!!

“It’s the West’s equivalent to Kanwa Intel. My opinion!”

In other words: Certain items (particularly Chinese subject matters)
that the two medias carries tend to mimic and/or are repeats of what has already
been popular products of East Asian publications and media sources.

In fact, many of the Chinese stories carried by the two medias has
or are usually topics that’s long been chatters and items-of-bickerings of sites
as WMF, CMF, CDF, the top81 site, China.com, Qianlong, etc., etc…

Therefore, “Jane’s Fighting Ships”??? I’d say
the name “Speculation’s Galores” sounds more fitting 😀 !!! Nice contents, Yes!
But informative and accurate? Not in my book!!!

Wrong, chinese ares interested by the Rafale, not by the 2005!

anyway, while the USA and british sell weapons to Lybia , saudies, and Pakistan!

why French will don’t sell to china? because US will sell China too, the only question is when!

USA and UK provided to Saddam to dirtiest weapons, biologic, chimical and bacteriologics technologies and virus! when french sold only fews mirage and anti tanks missiles!

Bush admin promised to discover french “vilains” weapons, for 2years they still ares reseaching, as WMD the French evil saddams weapons was in neo cons dreams of bashing! lol

India has started the debate on manned space flight
to the moon. Its the logical next step after the 2007 unmanned moon mission
Chandrayaan-1 and now the 2005 Space Capsule experiements.

Step aside NASA!!! I wouldn’t be surprised if India’s ISO
will prove the only agency to come out the undaunted and untarnished winner
here because of its positive and forward-looking outlooks.

Tom Clancy really isn’t an idiot… Although indeed sometimes he makes “mistakes” by forgetting certain aspects like the long-range S300PMU versions in “The Bear and the Dragon” or by not really exploiting his sometimes very excellent strategic ideas (like not placing his bombers on Iceland in “Red Storm Rising”.) Or Inventing new stuff, like his Ghostrider plane in Red Storm Rising.
But I have to conclude that I can only adjust and go further on his nice ideas and that it would be very hard for me to really come up with such a plan from scratch myself. Hence I consider him very well informed and nice to read.

    On another note:

Let’s just say that if CSI is the driving force behind the rage people have in our universities
today in the field of ferensic science (proven fact); and, if Steven Spielberg is the driving force that
fuels the interest that people have in the cosmos and directly the field of space exploration; then, Tom Clancy’s
visions of modern warefare is an eye opener to what’s military and what’s the realities of war
    .

Is he an idiot??? The CIA certainly don’t think so!

I don’t think we know the exact purpose of those 122mm launchers yet. Unless you have a better source….?

    Source of the naysayers???

Or, the average personality’s state of mind and mentalities???

Anyway, let me see if I can rephrase it: Anything with the word “Chinese” attached to it???
C’mon… You Guys can’t be serious!!! Pots and Pans does come to mind, toasters too maybe, but military
equiptments which potentially rival those of the best and the craziest??? Be serious!!!

Is that it, JonS 😀 ???

Anyway, if it makes you guys feel
that much more better, superior, or more macho to them there Chinese, or
ChiComs, by all means…. Why not?

    here to make you happy

    from dictionary.com

    Nationality:

The status of belonging to a particular nation by origin, birth, or naturalization.
A people having common origins or traditions and often constituting a nation.
Existence as a politically autonomous entity; national independence.
    National character.
    Nationalism.

You could say the PLAAF’s nationality is from the PRC because it belongs to the PRC

    :diablo:

    Sorry, WACHENR0DER, as I said, I’ve
made my point(s). I know I’ve also made impacts.
And that is all that matters in my book

Heck! It’s like how Dan Rather is now trying to be honest about his
reporting but that to his surprise that his honesty is being questioned, his story twisted, and
“the word ‘honesty’ strangely strucked from the English dictionary”.

Therefore, I concede to defeat here 🙂 …
