PLAN used to have an admiral that was very pro-carrier. He had much of the PLAN’s reins in the late nineties. That was all where the carrier related stuff was coming from.
The next guy that replaced him had a very different naval philosophy. He is more of the sub faction and the sub guys has since taken over the PLAN. This means you’re going to see less surface ship development and more subs and subs.
PLANAF is now run by a former PLAAF aviator, so you can expect PLANAF to act more and more like a subsidiary of the PLAAF rather than the PLAN.
I am still betting that “the prestige and the image that comes
attached with carriers” will dictate that China will eventually and soon field
a number “medium carriers” — even if for the bragging rights of it.
Chinese are a face-loving spiecies amongst homosapians,
and aircraft carriers just as it is Airforce One’s that have bugs in it as standard
equiptment offers the Chinese leaderships such previlages.
:diablo:
I have no problems whatsoever with the difinition “RoCAF“, OC. But “nationality”???
Once again, the word “others“ simply is not agreeable with the word “nationality“ in this context
because the two are one and same nationality wise though they are different politically.
I mean that’s like trying to impose an idea, or will, on others for examples that
French Quecbec is a distinctly nation from that of the rest of Canada or that the region of India known as Punjab
is nationalistically not Indian simply because it’s not Hindi, and so on and so forth…
:diablo:
The new DDGs do have ASW capability, otherwise you can explain those MLRS style charge launchers and the Z-9C/ Helix helos they have on deck. They’re meant as an expression of power with other countries, otherwise missile boats and subs would have siffice performing a blockade of Taiwan.
:diablo:
Crob… Those are all
photoshopped works of art — always has been and
alway will be. Comprende?
:p
Huh? everything PLAN has done so far has been taiwan centric, for example the new DDgs all lack ASW capability and are geared mainly towards blockade of taiwan. How exactly are these vessels geared towards taking on anyone else (considering how every single ASEAN member are loading up on SSKs).
Once again: Chinese Islands is but a piece of cake.
“Chinese preparations are intended
to face/deter storms that are much much more massive.”
Even the blind can see in this respect.
Anyway, let’s forget this. Each our opinions thart is…
.
No other ship but aircraft carriers have vast amounts of open space both above and below decks. The logic is there if you take more than one second to look for it.
Have it your way, Vympel. You are entitle to :diablo: your opinions :diablo: .
Indeed, they are both Chinese. They both say that they are the legitimate government of the whole of China, mainland and the island of Taiwan. One is called the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the other the The Peoples Republic of China (commonly know as China). Se technically speaking a Chinese is in the picture (assuming it is indeed an Taiwanese), but the PLAAF is the air force branch of the The Peoples Republic of China defence forces so what seems to be the problem. You guys totally lost me on this  .
:diablo:
Republic of China???
No such thing. There is only One China.
Consult the UN.
Argument: I can say that just because Quebec is demanding and crying for
separtism that it too is a distinct nationality and should not be considered French Canada. But, I doubt
it that Ottawa will agree with you. Word usage must be taken with due care.
Enough however. I’ve made my point.
:diablo:
Sub guys are running PLAN now. No way they’re going to build a carrier or even attempt to make the Varyag into one.
Hypothesis: They will field a few just for the sheer pride and prestige of it…
Why do I see it that way? For the sheer size of a country
as China, coupled with the purchasing power it is now blissed, metaphorically speaking,
Mercede Benzes should be a common scenes and a “MUST”!!!
Argument: All those theme parks that utilizes aircraft carriers as
a venue tells a story!!! It shows us how consume or the desire the Chinese may have
in their minds for carriers because of the image carriers project.
I mean why must they utilize, of all vessels, aircraft carriers
for their theme parks? Why not cruiseships or ferries which can easily be had??? I mean
don’t you think that that’s weird? The logic is simply not there!!!
But, make no mistake: They know carriers are a liability and as
such are pouring everything they have into subs, anti-ship missiles, fighter bombers,
and other deterences as the country’s national defense priorities.
Another example: If they ordered Airforce One, they will want Carriers!!!
😮
Do we base our “knowledge” on movies here? Sum of all Fears shows a lot of mistakes… WHat makes you believe a carrier only has CIWS mounts? What makes you believe the US would let it’s carrier float near Russia unprotected? In the movie, they just flew in with their planes throw some missiles and hit the carrier… SURE! If it was that easy, what are we worried about then? Why would someone want a carrrier? Costs too much for being crashed this easy…
In the movie all Kh-22 missiles worked, first of all, the missiles didn’t work in their good days, nowadays, probably none of them is in such a state as to be used in any exercise or war. Even when they were fielded as “the” weapon, more than half of them exploded just 30 seconds after launch. I believe only 1/10 missiles made it to the target area, exploding somewhere near the target but never quite on top of it. Also, the range was quite lower than the stated 500km. Depended on the guidance, and that was a hard thing to accomplish. The first missiles only made 30miles or so. Of course they could fly up to 500km, but then there is no guidance… All the remaining fuel after 30 miles makes it very dangerous of course!
No contest! But, interesting thought nonetheless…
Of course, I too had read somewhere once that Tom Clancy is no more
but one of those dime-a-dozen idiots whose mouth is 10 times larger than his brain.
Which proves more the reason why I am suspicious as to why the mighty CIA had once
upon a time resorted to his expertist as a guideline for their dirty works.
No wonder they are tearing apart that silly agency.
:diablo:
*sigh*- the Varyag was actually a Soviet carrier before the Chinese bought it and dragged it half way around the world, and in the decade or so following its cancellation, it sat unattended at its shipyard (in the water) doing nothing. That the hull has gone to the dogs is fact- you don’t need to know be an employee of a Chinese shipyard to know that, and it’s been reported before.
*sigh*… I like that gesture 😀 , Vympel…
Anyway, I’m glad you feel so dead-sure about all things PLAN or about
all things ChiCom because I for one has been decieved on numerous occasions in
the past by them over what they indeed may have under their sleeves.
Example: I too use to jump in on the naysayer to the J-10
bandwagon; the naysayer to the Chinese DDG and FFG bandwagon; and, to the
naysayer to the Chinese Rusty Bucket bandwagon, and more …
But, to no avail, I now MUST swallow my pride blue rare and eat each
and every word and statement I’ve made in the past. Of course, this is not to say
that I won’t be subjected to same on what I am saying here however.
But, I know that you, Vympel, can never be wrong however!
:diablo:
Oh the IRONY!!!! I concede my mistake.
Whoever posted this on the Chinese forums had a wicked sense of humour to pass it off as PLA-N subs. I salute you!
Not to be discouraged, koxinga.
It’s not the end of the world. Besides, it still can be West German.
Who knows for certain what it is!!!
I’m sure they won’t be be stupid enough to go to the expense of getting engines for the thing from somewhere (that’s right, it doesn’t even have engines) and then realize they can’t even fit them for deterioration of the hull.
Seems as if you are in the know and from the inside out. Are you a Dairen naval yard insider or somethin’?
What?
What does PLAAF have to do with Indian, Pakistani, American, etc nationalities? PLAAF signifies PRC, which in turn signifies the ML Chinese nationality. WTF are you muttering?
:diablo:
Legally and technically speaking:
Research tells me that the Island of Taiwan is not a “separate”
or “distinct nationality” as you’d like to painted it, Vic. It is agreed, legally,
even by UN charters that the Island is Chinese territory. Even America
recognizes this fact and reality, Vic, so, why are you so particular?
Bottom line: The word “nationality” just doesn’t agree
with the word “other” in this context and in this particular instance. Talking about
English!!! Poor me! I never thought I had to spell it out!!!
:diablo:
I never said PLAAF was a nationality. I said it “utilizes nationalities…”
First: learn to comprehend english correctly
Second: try to semantically wriggle out of liesThat order of operation is key, if reversed, it will make one look like a stupid liar, not just a liar.
Tootaloo…
Liar Liar Pants on fire 😉 :p 😮 😀 ???
On another token: What “nationality“ would
you be trying to make distinctions here, Vic? Pakistani? East
Indian?? Indonesian??? American???? What??????
I’m totally lost here, Vic. Somehow, and
technically speaking, the word “nationalities“ just doesn’t
seem to agree the word “other” here.
Sorry Vic, if my English somehow is not of the same standard as yours.
:diablo:
I guess PLAAF utilizes people of many nationalities in their force 🙂
Confused as always…
I never knew PLAAF is “A Nationality”. I alway
thought it is a branch of a military establishment. Hmmm…
As they say, one Learn something new every day.
Thanks anyway :D.
Taiwanese pilots were trained in France, it was part of the RoCAF’s M2K deal. The Mirage on the pic is coded 5-OA (Ã’m clairvoyant, that Chinese guy’s head is actually transparant to me), which coincidentally happens to be in EC5, the escadre where the RoCAF pilots got their M2K conversion.
Sigh.
Orange (where EC5 has it’s base) is the M2000C base furthest from Paris, actually.
Well… that clears up the intrique anyway. Thanks.
